Where does Penn State basketball recruit?
Since I was interested in this sort of thing, I plotted every recruit that Penn State has picked up since 2002 (not including 2 international players, sorry Milos) and came up with this. Feel free to talk this fine piece of work over.
Interesting things, sort of.
The Texas connection is only 4 years old: Chris Babb and Tim Frazier
Kentucky= Jeff Brooks
The first recruit from Minnesota in forever and a half: Ross Travis
Ohio State has picked up 12 players from their own state since 2002 but only about 8 of them are players you've ever heard of or seen.

Nice work, but the first question that came to mind was: what program is that?
I doesn’t look like Excel unless you put some sort of formatting on it.
It's the program called
I googled “Make a bar graph”

Where does Penn State recruit?
The gutter?
Ba-dum pshhhhhhh.
I kid, I kid. Ed’s hands are tied. Even if some hot shot AAU kid wants to play here, no way does PSU get involved with paying handlers, their agents, etc. Our best shot is still under the radar kids who can play. Look at a team like Richmond or VCU for current examples. We’re never getting McDonald’s All-Americans to play here, so maybe we should scour the nation for kids who work at McDonald’s and can hoop a bit.

Penn State needs to find more players like Battle, Frazier and Brooks. Guys who can play but aren’t highly recruited like you mentioned. I like to think the situation at Penn State is similar to Pitt almost 10 years ago. I heard a discussion on a Pittsburgh radio station about the Pitt program. They were saying how it takes time build a program into a national competitor. They were talking about how even with all the recent success at Pitt, high school kids still don’t dream about playing there. They would rather play at a Duke or UNC or UCLA or Texas.
As with anything it takes time and consistent attendence of NCAA tournaments and deep runs in the BIG TEN tournaments go a long way in helping to recruit.

Texas?
I know they have their good years, but I’ve never thought of them as one of basketball’s elite schools

Kevin Durant.
They’re consistently at or near the top of the Big Ten.

And by Ten, I mean Twelve
even though they have ten teams. You know what I meant.

you are just a year too early with the name.
And I know they did well with Durant, and usually have a decent team, but I wouldn’t put them with the rest of the B-ball blue bloods.

One of the ESPN analysts said
the reason Pitt goes out early every year is that, while they have very good talent, they rarely have NBA talent (Blair is probably the last one). All the top NBA talent this year is still playing in the tournament.
You know, forget that, I think that was Cowherd that said that!
People will always forget what you do, and they will always forget what you say, but they will never, ever forget the way you make them feel.
That is true though.
Hansborough is about the only legitimate top-tier NBA talent that has been eliminated. Pitt doesn’t have anybody. Most of the good NBA talent go to school’s like Duke, UNC, Kentucky and Kansas who are perenial powerhouses and it’s a fluke when they get knocked off early in the tournament.

Hansbrough a legitimate top-tier NBA talent?
