Jamil Pollard Commits to Penn State

Give me a defensive tackle...no, a guard...give me a big dude and a siren WHOOOOO!!!
Good news on the recruiting front today as Penn State landed their fifth verbal commitment for the class of 2012 when New Jersey defensive tackle Jamil Pollard informed the coaches of his intentions.
Pollard has the ability to play defensive tackle or offensive guard, but most people feel he will end up on the defensive side of the ball. He stands 6'5" and weighs in at 280 lbs. As a junior, Pollard recorded 56 tackles and 4 sacks. Scout ranks him as a three star prospect and the #40 defensive tackle in the country. Rivals is a little more generous giving him a fourth star.
For you non-star gazers out there, Pollard also had a pretty impressive offer list that includes Alabama, Florida, Iowa, and Rutgers. He was also seeing interest from Nebraska and Syracuse.
Pollard joins TE Jesse James, DE Brent Wilkerson, LB Camren Williams, and OG Anthony Stanko as the early members of the class of 2012. There is still room in this class to take one or two more defensive tackles, but what's great about Pollard is the staff has some flexibility to move him over to offense. Though he has mentioned in the past that he really wants to play defense.

Great news
FWIW Anthony Scirrotto was from West Deptford, if I recall.
Hopefully big JP has better anger management skills ;-)
Don't know much about recruiting
But beating out Iowa for a dlineman, as well as Florida and Alabama, can’t be bad news
WE'RE DANCIN!!!
LJ Sr just got a beast for the D-line. This kid plays mean. I liked how he has enough speed to make plays sideline to sideline from the DT spot! He was lighting guys up playing O-line to. I like this kid.
This reminds me very much of Jon Gruden.

That was a little more Madden than Gruden
Gruden is more:
JAWS LEMME TELL YA
I LOVE THIS GUY
THEY CALL HIM “SIDELINES”
CAUSE HE CAN GO FROM ONE SIDELINE
TO THE OTHER SIDELINE
SO HE’S CALLED SIDELINES
AND THAT’S WHAT MAKES HIM SO FUN TO WATCH

You've got to bookend it.
“I really like this guy.”

And then Jaws comes in:
“After breaking down countless hours of film, what really impresses me is his lateral quickness.”
- insert random clip of game film -
“Watch here in this film that I’ve broken down, as he is able to move from all the way from one sideline,”
- circles player and draws arrow to sideline -
“All the way to the other sideline!”
- draws arrow following the player’s movement across the field even though it is blatantly obvious and then draws a circle around the other sideline -
“…film.”
Gruden; “AND THAT’S WHY THEY CALL HIM SIDELINES!”
Mike Tirico: “Who is ‘they’?”
HE’S GONNA HAVE TO USE THAT SIDELINE TO SIDELINE ABILITY TONIGHT IF HE WANTS HIS TEAM TO WIN.
BUT THATS WHAT I REALLY LIKE ABOUT HIM
- Mike Tirico fashions a noose from his tie and attempts to hang himself -
And scene

From 12/6, after we found out Gruden was calling the Outback Bowl...
“Matt McGloin…now here’s a kid who just wants to get better as a football player. This kid LOVES the game of football. I really like this kid. He’s gritty, he’s aggressive. He may not look like much, not the strongest arm, not the fastest wheels. But man, this kid can sling it. I mean, he can make every throw. Just loves to play the game, this kid McGloin. You know, they call him the West Scranton Gunslinger because all he does is throw the ball around all day. He’s always just looking to get better as a football player, that’s why I like ‘im. He reminds me of a kid that Florida used to have by the name of Tim Tebow. Tebow was a different kind of player, but they’re really the same kind of player. Both are guys who just love the game of football. I really like this kid."

I made a Gruden drinking game for that one
Drink any time he says he likes or loves a player, and drink for nicknames. Drunk by the first half. Which was a good thing for that game.

Genius. Pure, unadulterated genius.

Why won't the video play?
It goes to the screen with the siren when you click it lately.
Publicity is like poison; it doesn't hurt unless you swallow it.
Joe Paterno
How?
I get the same thing for siren posts on Firefox and just have to search for the title of the video.
Would appreciate knowing how to fix this.
click the play button on the bottom left,
then closing out the gif. pop-up

I love the play where he makes the play 30-40 yards down the feild

One of the West Deptford coaches (who posts on BWI) thinks his future is at OG, for what it's worth.
Great offer list.

West Deptford H.S.
Anthony Scirrotto did go there (and is currently a volunteer assistant there). Howver, another West Deptford grad (Kordell Young) just finished up at Rutgers-which is why I felt RU was PSU’s main competition for Pollard. It was known to everyone here (I live in West Deptford and have a daughter who is a senior at the high school and a son who went there just after Scirrotto went to PSU) that Pollard wants to play close to home.
HEY HEY!!!!
Three stars???? Are we referencing Rivals? THAT’S FORBIDDEN!!!!

So he's more of a penetrator of a DT than a run stuffer?
Good, love those types of guys

Same Here
I’m running FF 3.6/4 and both give me the siren.gif from assets.sbnation.com, instead of playing the video.
If you check above, tlrpsu seems to have figured out the issue. Hopefully he can help us, or I might ask submit a ticket to sbnation. I’ll be sure and follow up here if I get an answer.
Think I fixed it
Something screwy with the SBN story editor and embedding videos. Went into the html and fixed it manually. Let me know if you’re still having issues.
I definitely thought he looked more impressive on the offensive side of the ball
He was manhandling some D-linemen, and they weren’t your typical HS slightly larger than average kid thrusted into the position, they were big dudes.
More proof JoePa cant recruit!
Oh….wait…nevermind.

Welcome to Penn State!
"I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done for this university." "Oh, I haven't done enough." - Joe Paterno.
No way he had a Rutgers offer
Don’t we only get their leftovers?
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
Sad to say,
He wasn’t recruited by VA Tech, therefore, he is not elite.
Mr. Pollard, if you or friends are reading this, it’s just an inside joke. You are elite. Welcome to Penn State!!

Dude is a straight up Beast
very good on his feet for carrying 280 pounds. Also appears to have 1. a motor and 2. a mean streak. Going to be fun to have him on either side of the ball.
He reminded me of Chris Doleman from Tecmo Super Bowl.
Welcome!

Kids got a motor. He's got a mean streak that's easy to spot in his play.
He will be a winner at PSU as long as he keeps his nose clean.
