Recruiting: Brian Gaia Commits to Penn State
This weekend Penn State landed their seventh verbal commitment for the class of 2012 when Baltimore, MD lineman Brian Gaia called the coaches and let them know. Gaia is the fourth defensive lineman to already commit to the Lions.
The 6'3" 290 lb prospect is listed as a three-star player on both Scout.com and Rivals.com and sports an impressive offer list that includes Boston College, Iowa, Maryland, Pitt, Rutgers, Virginia, and West Virginia. And as an added bonus, he also holds an offer from that bastion of eliteness, Virginia Tech. He was also seeing interest from Alabama and LSU.
All of the other schools offered Gaia as an offensive lineman. Penn State is the only school to offer him as a defensive lineman. I'm not sure how he feels about that, but Penn State was reportedly his favorite school growing up. Doing the math, he was probably about 12 years old in 2005, so it's nice to see we're getting to the point where the kids we're recruiting were too young to remember that awful stretch from 2000-2004.
I have to think there's maybe one more spot available on the defensive line. So come on down, Mr. Spence.
Congratulations, Mr. Gaia, and welcome to Penn State.

Welcome, Brian
People will always forget what you do, and they will always forget what you say, but they will never, ever forget the way you make them feel.
ONLY THREE STARS!?!?!?!?!?

Welcome aboard young Brian.
It's even possible that Jim Tressel drinks out of the toilet
I’m really disappointed he didn’t get that Alabama offer. What does that say when Nick Saban doesn’t think he’s good enough to make the 110 man roster before he cuts it down to 85?

Concerned
More vowels than consonants in his name. It’s like he’s hogging them.
I've got the brains. You've got the looks. Let's make lots of money.

Welcome, Brian!
And don’t worry: you might play OL too…

12 in 2005?
I’m already 6 years older than the incoming Freshmen? Dear lord.
"It's not just linebackers. This is Penn State linebackers, man. We're a certain type. We've gotta be aggressive, relentless, focused. Don't talk. Don't talk at all. We don't showboat or anything. We just play hard and get the job done." -Khairi Fortt
I'm ten years older than the incoming freshmen.
And about half the people here are ten years older than me.

Gaia is an excellent pickup
I personally think he would be better on offense than on defense, but I’m definitly not questioning LJ on this one. The kid has excellent feet for a guy 6-3 290+, and has a mean streak to go with it. He is a mauler on pulls and does an awesome job getting to the 2nd level on the backers.
Don’t get me wrong, he looks good on D too, but I have a funny feeling we’ll see him on offense before his time at PSU is up.
I got Tiger Blood running through my veins!
wherever we need him the most
and wherever his contributions are the greatest is where I want to see him. I trust the coaches to figure that one out

I wouldn't be surprised if we see him on 0 either
but the fact that we’re just about the only school who recruited him on D might mean something.
Fire Dan Snyder
I think we hit on a few more D-Linemen
I really hope that Jones stays committed. He is a huge get for us. I wouldn’t be surprised if Schutt verbals to us before the fall.
I’m also curious to see what the staff does with Zettel once he arrives on campus. I feel he is a better G than DT too. Prob is, we have recruited some very good G’s as of late. Too bad they all can’t grow 3 inches while they are freshmen so they can become T’s.
