Big Ten Bowl Schedule Released
The Big Ten bowl schedule is out, and if you liked four games of conference interest going on at once this past New Year's Day, get ready for the sequel on Jan. 2, 2012. New ESPN.com Big Ten blogger Brian Bennett has the full lineup of non-BCS bowls.
Non-BCS Big Ten bowls
Outback Bowl: Jan. 2, 1 p.m. (Tampa, Fla.): Big Ten vs. SEC
Gator Bowl: Jan. 2, 1 p.m. (Jacksonville, Fla.): Big Ten vs. SEC
Capital One Bowl: Jan. 2, 1 p.m. (Orlando, Fla.): Big Ten vs. SEC
Ticket City Bowl: Jan. 2, 12 p.m. (Dallas): Big Ten vs. Conference USA
Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas: Dec. 31, Noon (Houston): Big Ten vs. Big 12
Insight Bowl: Dec. 30, 10 p.m. (Tempe, Ariz.): Big Ten vs. Big 12
Little Caesars Pizza Bowl: Dec. 27, 4:30 p.m. (Detroit) Big Ten vs. MAC
The Outback Bowl really screwed things up for everyone. It used to be that you could turn that game on at 11 A.M., watch it straight through and just miss the beginning of the Capital One and Gator Bowls. Now, all three start at the exact same time, just an hour after the Ticket City Bowl gets underway, and it's nearly impossible to track them all, especially if your team is one of the four competing at the same time.
Having five New Year's Day games, counting the Rose Bowl, is great for the conference, but if stinks out loud for the fans. The start times should be staggered, but any bowl starting later than 1 P.M. might mess with Jim Delany's precious Rose Bowl, and that can't happen.
All the more incentive to earn those BCS berths, I suppose....

Sigh
In this modern age, you’d think we’d be able to manage a schedule so that we’d only have at most two Big Ten bowls going at once. Guess it just means our individual team fanbases provide enough eyeballs to support each game without relying on assistance from the fanbases of conference partners?
Doesn’t matter to me though. I’d still prefer to be able to watch all the Big Ten bowls without flipping across 4 different channels at once.

yeah
that’s lame. I liked the old staggered approach where you could watch one for an hour or two before the next one started. That way you could get a full day of non-stop football in and get to see how all the teams around the conference are doing.
I'm on the Internet cause I'm an Internet thug.
Why Jan 2?
I see Jan 1 is on a sunday, but why push the games back to Jan 2?
I’m sorry, but blanket statements are proven false 99% of the time, and if you make a blanket statement about college football, there’s a good chance that one exception will be Joe Paterno. - AdamShell @ BSD

uuugh...
the NFL insists on playing still?
Also, are they just assuming that everyone also gets the following Monday off for New Years Day? Seems unfortunate for those that don’t get to move holidays around (though most companies/businesses do).

And
Jacksonville has a home game on Jan.1 against the Colts with a 1 pm EST kick. Less than 24 hours to paint that field!
(The Bucs are away the two weeks before the Outback, and the Citrus and Cotton Bowls don’t have to worry about pro schedules.)
TV contracts do not allow competition between NFL and CFB, for the most part.
That’s why the only CFB monday nights are before the NFL starts, and NFL doesn’t do Sats until after CFB.

I got by pretty well last year
I bought a third TV for $5 at garage sale (I had one in the bedroom and one in the living room already) and put them all in the same room. I could have used my computer to watch NW play Texas Tech but given that the cats are cursed to always lose their bowl games I figured t would be ok with missing that one. It worked out pretty well but the people I watched with all agreed it may have been more difficult if MSU and Michigan weren’t getting blown out.
It isn’t ideal, I liked the old schedule better, but if this increases everyone’s bowl revenue with better TV contracts then I am fine with spending $5 on the extra TV and rearranging my living room.

Jan 2nd sucks
Completely blows up family tradition of waking up with a hangover and watching football all day long.
Now I’ve got to do that for two days in a row.

Great
Now I have to take a sick day on Jan 3rd because I’m still plastered from Jan 2nd. I thought thats what the official gov’t holiday on the 2nd was for?!

I'm pleased that the Outback Bowl is not so early any more
It sucked waking up early enough to get to that 11AM game. 1PM is better. They should put the Citrus Bowl on earlier and the other one on later.

"It was an attrition football game and you know we like that."
The Bowl and TV Execs should be shot...
…for simultaneously scheduling 3 bowl games between the same 2 conferences at the same time, and adding a 4th with an earlier start.
I am guessing it will cut the ratings by at least half.
My Prediction
Insight Bowl-Same stadium but not the same stage as 25 seasons ago. If it’s JoePa’s last year no better place for him to leave.
