Quick hits:
- Wisconsin is obviously the runaway favorite among us blogger know-it-all folk. The Badgers got the most 1st place votes, and only one blogger voted UW lower than 2nd in the conference.
- Nebraska didn't get the expected attention, with only the two 1st place votes, and three votes lower than 2nd place. The Huskers low rank was 5th.
- Ohio State only received one vote higher than 3rd. The rest varied from 3rd all the way down to 8th.
- Michigan State was all over the map as well, but generally fell between 3rd and 4th. The same blogger who voted Nebraska 5th voted MSU 1st. The Spartans' low rank was 8th, from two bloggers.
- Penn State is about where many expected. The Nittany Lions did get two 2nd place votes. The low PSU rank was 7th, by two bloggers.
- Iowa's highest rank was 3rd. The Hawks' low rank was 9th.
- Northwestern's high rank was 4th. The Cats' low rank was 10th, but generally most were in the 7-8 range.
- Michigan's high rank was 4th. The low rank was 9th.
- Illinois came in much lower than expected. The Illini's low rank was 12th! Another was for 10th. The high rank was only 6th.
- Purdue only received two rankings in the single digits. However, no one picked the Boilers last.
- Indiana wouldn't have beaten out Minnesota even if a certain homer pick (though, not sure how homerish a 9th place rank can be) did help out the Gophers a bit. Still, the Hoosiers high rank was a single vote for 10th place. Minnesota only received four last-place votes.

Sounds like there's gonna be some surprised bloggers
when neither Nebraska or Wisconsin makes the B1G Championship Game.
is there anyway i can redeem myself, i was not sure if i should say "we" at that moment

I don't really see anyone else from Leaders finishing ahead of Wisco.

Wisconsin and Nebraska
Wisconsin is good but people talk like Andrew Luck transferred there. Wilson was at best a slightly above average QB in a WEAKER conference. As for Nebraska they do draw the short end of the stick schedule-wise. As I recall PSU did not get screwed in terms of its initial schedule in 1993 and 1994; I believe we missed Wisconsin (which was unexpectedly good in 1993 as they went to the Rose Bowl) and Purdue (mediocre at best both years).
I admittedly haven't taken a look at either team since last year
But I do remember thinking that Wisconsin was losing some really importnat players. And Nebraska wasn’t even that good last year.
My first place vote would have gone to a team outside of the collective top 5.
and one of my associates agrees with me.

Looking at the point totals
#3-5 are virtually indistinguishable. Separated by less than 1 rank per blog. #6-8 can almost say the same thing. It’s organized by ranks, but looking at the points, it looks like the bloggers voted this way:
The favorites: Wisconsin, Nebraska
The contenders: OSU, MSU, PSU
The other bowl teams: Iowa, Northwestern, Michigan
I could see you in either the group higher or group lower, I’m not sure which: Illinois
Not bowl teams: Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana

Pretty much
The Big Ten is quite compartmentalized this year.

I agree, but I think Illinois
is more of a lean towards the “other bowl teams” group in reality. And by the points, I guess, but just barely.
Illinois is only 10 points under Michigan
That’s closer than Nebraska is to Wisconsin (12) and Northwestern is to Iowa (11).
The big breaks are between Nowledge and TOSU (25), Penn State and jIowa (18), and the Fighting Zookers and Purdue (23).
That being said, I think “I Could See You in Either the Group Higher or the Group Lower, I’m Not Sure Which” should be the official title of the biography of Ron Zook.
Purdue...
is still in the conference? Damn.

Our local guy, Bob Flounders
My coach vote was as follows: 1. Bret Bielema, Wisconsin; 2. Bo Pelini, Nebraska; 3. Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern.
Pretty amazing that out of 24 writers, Paterno got one third-place vote. I’m not surprised, I’m just sort of shocked, you know?

Bret Bielema as the Best Coach?
Did the other 11 coaches die?

On a related note
the media love for Wisconsin is so overwhelming that I’m starting to think they’ll end up with a losing record.

It's okay...
at the end of the season, the media can repeatedly kick their ballots outside of the voting box and run time out until the deadline.

They always...
struggle in the non-conference, especially home games. They should’ve lost that Arizona St. game last year. They don’t play a true road game until October 22 though they do play N. Illinois at Solider Field. Interesting.

Scott, things aren't as happy as they used to be down here at the unemployment office. Joblessness is no longer just for Philosophy majors - useful people are starting to feel the pinch.

Did anybody else watch that game last year?
That was one of the ugliest games I’ve ever seen.

Voting thought process
Crap, I have to have my votes in by noon. Best coach? Uh, Wisconsin was in the Rose Bowl last year right? Bret Bielema!

Strength of Schedule
is something which is routinely ignored in making these picks. Illinois has the easiest schedule of anybody in the “East”. They miss Nebraska, MSU and Iowa-the alleged top three teams in the “West” per this poll. Illinois also gets both the Suckeyes and Wisconsin at home; I can easily see a split of those two games. I have posted elsewhere that Illinois is my East darkhorse. I know they lost some big time players to the NFL but if the QB continues to progress the Illini could contend.
