Penn State Football Raises Big Money At Lift For Life
There was a lot of football talk at Holuba Hall Friday afternoon as the Penn State football team participated in the ninth annual Lift For Life event. The fundraiser itself, though, was a big success yet again as the group raised nearly $95,000 for the Kidney Cancer Association.
The 2011 total of money raised stood at $94,410.09 this morning and Eric Shrive ($25,020) and Mike Farrell ($10,880) were the top fundraisers according to a press release. Fans can continue to donate over at Penn State's Uplifting Athlete's donation page.
The team of Derek Day, Brian Irwin, Evan Lewis and Pat Zerbe won the team portion of the event. Kyle Baublitz, Emery Etter, Shane McGregor and Jon Rohrbaugh finished second and Jake Fagnano, J.D. Mason, Tariq Tongue, and Jamie finished third.
Since 2003, the Lift for Life event and the Penn State chapter of Uplifting Athletes have now raised nearly $600,000 total.
Hear Shrive talk about this year's event in the video below.

It's things like this that make you proud to be a Penn Stater
and to support our football program.
Fire Dan Snyder
Good showing for the 717
Brian Irwin and Evan Lewis are sturdy Adams County boys (Gburg)
Kyle Baublitz is a 717er also
WE'RE DANCIN!!!
This was the second year I've gone, it's a really cool thing to go and see
Not sure how many went, but just some things of note that I saw while I was there:
- Talor Battle AND Jamelle Cornley
- Rob Bolden was there, but was in the non-competing uniform that the freshmen and other non-competing players were in, he seemed pretty happy to be there and was cheering on guys going through the workout. I got a picture of him with his HS teammate and freshman Allen Robinson, and freshman Matt Zanellato
- I think I ran into our boy Sam Ficken outside
- Silas Redd wasn’t competing, but was getting interviewed big time on the media side of event
- Mike Hull (RS Fr LB) is absolutely jacked. He’s about my height (6-6’1), which I would have thought would be a little small for a PSU backer, but he’s definitely got the upper body for it (and already as a freshman, which is the amazing part)
- Shawn Oakman is huge
- They had a lot of raffle stuff that was non PSU related, but some of it really cool, like a big framed pistol and hand written letter from Al Capone. The had a bunch of signed jerseys too, some of which weren’t even bid on (e.g. a Lesean McCoy eagles jersey, haha)
You sure that wasn't a gun and letter signed by Gino Capone?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.
