Penn State Media Day Player Interviews
We'll have plenty of coverage of the stories that came out of this year's Media Day later this week, but for now I wanted to let everyone look over the 29 minutes of practice video and interviews. This first video before the jump is just a bit of the extra footage I picked up from the day including some Paterno, Redd, and McGloin quotes. Practice highlights and interviews can be found down below.
While this is really nothing more exciting than pregame warmups, it was a good chance to see the guys in action and just moving around. Each unit was sent to a specific station and then rotated to the next one after a whistle blew. No members of the media actually got to see practice but it was still a neat chance to see everybody up close. Check out some of the nice grabs by the wideouts towards the ending 3rd of the film.
I finshed the interview off camera by insuring Lynn that everyone in fact does know his name.
I've known Stupar since middle school, and it's safe to say he's gotten bigger and smarter since then. Good kid.
What people don't seem to realize is if you wait for the initial horde to die down, you can get a one-on-one pretty easily. Again, everyone loves Silas. But how couldn't you?
This one goes out to all of the State College people who know how fast and good Alex Kenney is. I got a chance to talk to him off camera about rooming with Rob Bolden but you'll have to wait until later to hear about that.
Mike Wallace was my go-to for starting up these interviews. I ran into Jack Crawford in the bathroom and almost prematurely wet my pants. Mike is a nice guy, and fun to talk to.

Small bonus item if others were unaware
the team is wearing white laces in their blacks cleats this season. Completes the old-school look a bit. Back in the day all cleats were black with white laces. Read something related to this awhile back, that Alabama (pre-Saban, they don’t do it now) and USC also wore white laces with the black cleats and that their equipment staffs had to swap out the laces in all the cleats they recieved because they would only ship with black laces.

+1 for white laces on black cleats.
I’ve been in favor of this move to “retro” since the beginning. Others hate it, but I’m not “others.”

It's who "we are"
Most people with whom I have spoken about the changes are all about enhancing the “simple is beautiful” look of the unis this year. The best football programs, on any level, establish and embrace a unique, powerful identity. I think this is just another small part of getting back to what distinguishes Penn State’s brand of football, and I’m all for it.
Gray Facemasks
Would complete the look.
Of course I'm home. I'm always home. I'm uncool.

Look at that Jack Ham goodness.
No. Damn. Corporate. Swoosh.
We’re so close to a pure look and that last detail is thus going to drive me nuts.

The quote of the day though goes to McQueary

<3 Wallace!
Thanks for your hard work, Ben! Really enjoying it.
I was able to watch all the videos fine.
Fire Dan Snyder
thanks
Ben thanks for at least letting me know that it works on the site…I opened up Firefox instead of Internet Explorer….so rather than trying to figure out IE I think I’ll use Firefox from now on and I can get all the amazing videos on the site!
Fantastic Ben!
Thanks. Hope you had a great day.

Enjoyed the work
Nice props for the local guys — Alex and Nate. Although Alex apparently missed the “wear a t-shirt” memo. Joe’s right arm really ought to be in a sling. Good job getting your prof in the McFarvre video. Who’s the reporter in the sunglasses interviewing Silas at the :50 second mark in the top video? Take the glasses off buddy. All in all an impressive bunch. Looks like a great experience. Congrats.

That’s all I’ll say.

Was Fera hitting the mango rum again?
Why is he in the doghouse again?

Big Red...
man that dude is an intense coach. Its no wonder PSU’s WR’s have been consistently good…he can coach them up and he’s got a rocket to throw them the ball.

lol..
yeah i see snippets of the WR’s with Big Red or Bradley with the DB’s and I get fired up.
Then I see Dick Anderson with the OL and I’m just like YAWN.
/To be fair, each coach is going to have his own distinct style depending on his unit.

and, on the video on gopsusports.com
Vanderlinden said this is the deepest we’ve been at LB since he’s been here. If that’s not encouraging, I don’t know what is.

Now if only he would stop encouraging the natural egotism of wide recievers.

Just wondering...

I think that's the first time I've heard McGloin be humble in an interview
“Whether it’s Rob or myself”
(not knocking him at all, just pointing out this is the first time his ego hasn’t made him sound like a douche)

So awesome, dude!
Was the camera on your shoulder? If so, one advantage of being 6’4". Or, after visiting with Jack in the restroom, maybe you decided to interview only dudes shorter than you.
You sounded pretty composed, even if you were nervous. They all turned out pretty cool.
Thanks for bringing us these goods!

Alex Kenney
Ben – Nice interview with Alex Kenney. From the outside, it is curious and frustrating that they keep bouncing him from offense to defense so many times. It is hard to imagine the challenge for Kenney. It is a waste of talent and speed. He is a game changer. Put him in the slot, get him the ball and let him create.
