2011 Season Drinkin' Menu
I'm putting the final touches on my planning for the 2011 season...
Figured out which game is for roommate reunion/camping trip...
Got the kids in the shade with our new tickets...
Dialed in lodging and got a dog-sitter...
But I'm most excited about my contribution to our tailgate this year - Drinking with the Enemy
Every game this year, I'll be making a signature cocktail for the group based on our opponent and its starting to look pretty sweet. Maybe a little bourbon heavy (Is that really a weakness?) but spanning a nice range of colors and taste profiles.
I'll post the list today and then I'm going to shoot for a running series that includes recipies and me doing my practice mix and volume production for each week. I've tried to include some drinks I never heard of so I'm not 100% sold on any of them and am more than willing to accept suggestions - you try coming up with a drink for the Sycamores...
Wish me luck...
2011 Tailgate Cocktail Menu
Indiana St Sycamores - Blue Drink - basically no better time to drink the blue kool-ade than now, supposed to be a jolly rancher in a glass
Alabama Crimson Tide - Alabama Slammer - only no-brainer on the list
E. Michigan Eagles - Eagle Eye - passion fruity deliciousness
Iowa Hawkeys - BlackHawk - could taste like dirt, hard to know at this point
Purdue Boilermakers - Boiler UP - boilermakers were too easy, plus I needed something with Jaeger in it
Illinois Illini - Orange Champagne Punch - so smooth it drinks itself
Nebraska Cornhuskers - Cornhusker Deluxe - Grain alcohol, bourbon & Tabasco... Man I hate these guys

Love it
You’re far more ambitious than I am. We simply rock bloody mary’s & mimosa for breakfast, and beer during the day. We also offer up blueberry vodka & lemonade for the ladies, and for big games we’ll trot out something like Original Sins (though they tend to lead to blackouts).

Depends.
If we win, I want to remember the game.
If we lose – blackouts are a nice way to avoid the pain.

supposed to be a jolly rancher in a glass
Will this have codeine cough syrup as well? That Drank.
Boiler UP
Why not go Pittsburgh Style? One mug of frosty Iron City Beer, one shot glass filled with Imperial whiskey. Drop the shot (glass and all) in the mug and chug. Repeat as necessary.

Not the right category...
The regular boilermaker doesn’t fit the pardigm we’re shooting for – I’ve got one of those big 3 gallon football drink dispensers and we just want something to put in there and forget about it. Dropping shots in beer, while awesome, falls outside what we’re looking for… I’m not sold on the Nebraska or purdue drinks either since they’re basically just shots but we’ll see how it goes

I suspect you will have fun
with each and every one of your selections.

my wife makes the same shooter for every game
Sweedish fish, she usually finds folks to share with.
Blackhaus Schnapps, Cranberry juice and a dash of sour mix. She mixes them in old Gatorade bottles and has plastic blue shot glasses along. She also drinks and occasional Corona (minis) or Mikes hard Lime.
I stick to beer, first game will be Wolter’s Pilsner and a Growler of Dogfish Head 90. I also pack a bit of Jameson.
My grammer skills need improved.
If I found a place that served $3.50 pints of anything here, I'd never leave.

Yeungling and Harp are 3.50 at the place I go. Nice pints too.
I get small pitchers of Yeungling at another place for 4.50

I loved that my friends fancy wine and craft beer store near Atlanta had Yuengling

i take it back
its $3.75 per pint.
they have a beer tasting this friday as well, for anyone who’s in the area and interested. texas hold ’em bbq in ft. lauderdale
If we want to actually have people at the game
I suggest you change the cornhusker deluxe to something that won’t lead directly to hospitalization.
Seriously...
I can’t believe somebody thought that that drink was a good idea… the best part is its FIVE parts PGA to ONE part Bourbon…
Death in a glass…

I'm not going to be cold at all because I'm going to be wasted on grain alcohol
Grain alcohol baby! Whenever there’s a potential riot I’m getting wasted on grain alcohol.

This is hyper-local, but...
If anyone’s looking for a really, really good bloody mary mix, there’s a little farmer’s market by Elizabethtown where nuns sell the best mix imaginable. Use some cucumber infused vodka and boom, early morning tailgate heaven.

I think we should ask an expert
… paging Anthony Fera….

No way
I refuse to drink mango rum for any game
I can't wait for the positional preview on the kicking game...
Fera: he kicked the ball. He drank a whiskey drink, he drank a vodka drink, he drank a lager drink, he drank a cider drink. He kicked again.

Someone needs to get Fera
some roofies if he’s going to catch up to the Polish Powderkeg!

i don't know why they call 'em roofies
more like floories. i’m more likely to end up on the floor than the roof!

I'm sad nobody rec'd this, Chumbawumba style.
I might only realize that because I managed to hear a cover band on Long Island play that live this weekend.

So essentially riot punch for the nebraska game?
gotta pre-game for the post-victory riot?
We have little tranquility but tons of tranquilizers.
For the Alabama game, I am going to drink the powder from a shotgun cartridge

Actual Nebraska suggestion that (probably) won't cause your untimely demise
One of the Nebraska commenters mentioned that they take a cheap light beer (I think they said Coors Light) and combined it with tomato juice for “Red Beer.” I admit it sounds….mediocre at best, but compared to this:
Cornhusker Deluxe – Grain alcohol, bourbon & Tabasco… Man I hate these guys
I think it’s a better option.

RE: Nebraska
Kool Aid got its start in Nebraska… Just throw that and some vodka together and viola!
