Speculation and news on PSU players and NFL cuts

It's that time of year when young men continue to live the dream or realize it's time to find their life's work outside of the playing field. NFL teams must cut rosters from 90 to 80 players by tomorrow and here's what I've been able to glean from around the interwebs.

Wisniewski looks to earn the starting LG position in Oakland while Bani and Lou are asked to turn in their playbooks. Hopefully Eliades gets another shot somewhere in the future as he works to come back from the torn ACL

Ollie Ogbu should make the Practice Squad (PS) in Indy and Colasanti looks to med school

Miami - Shuler currently number 2 at TE and Brackett has a shot there on the PS. Odrick is currently listed as 2nd on the depth chart at RDE, working his way back from injury.

I'm not sure what's happening with Royster in Washington. After a solid performance in the first exhibition against Pittsburgh he hasn't had a carry since. Perhaps Shanahan is trying to sneak him on their PS.

The Hullstache is still working to supplant Laura Naitis at MLB in STL. Justin King continues to earn a paycheck as a back-up corner if only due to a lack of talent there.

Norwoood and Paxson survived the first round of cuts out of Cleveland today. Norwood is looking good to make the roster and Paxson probably makes the PS.

Jets reports are that Maybin should succeed as a pass rush specialist, Landolt to PS.

Butler's recovery is Seattle has been slow and he's still on the PUP. Jay Alford probably PS fodder.

Rich Ohrnberger saw a lot of playing time after Conolly went down for the Patriots. Unfortunately he was repeatedly runover by a man named Suh. Word is he's the last guy to be cut unless the injuries continue to mount for Brady's OL.

It's not always sunny in Philadelphia for Shipley and he'll probably continue to plug away on the PS.

According to our friends at Behind The Steel Curtain, Gilmore is probably out of the TE battle, popular thinking is that young Saunders has more upside in the future. Kapinos won't beat out Sepulveda but somebody, somewhere must need a punter.

Nice rundown.

Thanks for it. I was really hoping Lou would make it out in Oakland. I heard from someone that Royster looks like the 4th guy in a 3 person race. He played good in first game but it’s been crickets since and that’s almost never good.

I believe he's battling Helu for that last spot

Helu’s got more speed but Royster’s been getting a lot of special teams work which helps a lot of guys stay in the league.

Shipley and PS

He has a shot. The Eagles may not keep Jamal Jackson as a highly paid back up; that would help Shipley’s cause. Expect to see a lot of him Thursday nite against the Jets.

Wow

That was some low hanging fruit and I didn’t realize what my comment sounded like.

Also, it took way to long for someone to make a comment like this. You guys are slipping.

However, AQ does not do it for me, although he is a big cuddly lug kind of guy.

I'm not so sure about Kapinos...

He performed well and built trust with the coaching staff after he was signed last year. Moreover, despite his Ray Guy like leg, Sepulveda simply can’t stay healthy.

I've been saying this all pre-season...

I mean who the hell needs a punter that’s always hurt, and Kapinos is solid. But yeah he’s 50/50 on making the team. Because Sepulveda can rupture his ACL crossing the street.

Ahhhh.....s@#t.

But

Sepulveda has the most awesome punter highlight clip ever.

still in the League. Signed with the Texans to battle for the 4th WR spot.

Loved this post!!!

I always wished BSD did more follow-ups on those trying to make NFL rosters. And while watching the Steelers the other night, they were saying Sepulveda may be the one to get cut, the way Kapinos is playing. I was skeptical, but Tomlin does have a history of making the sensible move even if you burned a draft pick on a guy.

Dan Connor

Is he still suck behind Beason on the depth chart in Carolina?

I thought Connor was starting in the middle

and Beason was playing on the outside? Connor just got hurt last year if I recall correctly.

The depth charts...

I’ve seen have him as 2nd stringer MLB behind Beason.

There was a lot of trade talks for Connor early,

(very involved in the Olsen trade talks) but nothing has happened yet so it seems he is there to stay.

Beason just had achilles surgery, so Connor is likely the week 1 starter. Its not expected to be too serious but its still a surgery so Connor will see some pt in the middle. But right now when everyone is healthy he is the odd man out.

Why did Carolina...

draft him when they had Beason? That never made sense to me.

They usually pick value over need pretty heavily after the first round or two.

But the talk early on was moving Beason to outside and Connor to middle, then Connor tore his ACL and that talk never really came back.

But yeah, Dan could definitely be a starter elsewhere.

by bigs26 on Aug 30, 2011 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Now the word is Beason is probably out 2 weeks at least

So Dan is going to get a real good chance to play and earn a spot. He won’t take Beason’s but if he plays well he could either be traded or take an outside spot.

The amateur bloggers around SBN are on top of this stuff and a more concise/user friendly source. I got much more info from them than news search on google.
