The Penn State Women's Vball team is on the Big Ten Network tonight at 8 taking on Nebraska live. It's Nebraska's first big ten game, and a big match up between the #5 and #10 teams in the country.
While all the attention has been on the football team the volleyball team has had their own struggles this year. With a freshman and sophomore laden line up the team has really struggled to find a leader. Their play has been very inconsistent. This past weekend they struggled at times against teams they would normally wipe the floor with.
Russ Rose who is a master motivator and commonly will knock his team down a few pegs in the media to get them to play better, seems genuinely concerned this year. And has been mixing line ups quite a bit in the early going. After moving last year's starting setter Kristen Carpenter to libero, he benched her this past weekend for poor play. Then brought her in Saturday and Sunday and ran a psuedo 6 - 2 formation, although Micha Hancock was mostly acting as an outside hitter.
Penn State will likely need to play their best match of the year, thus far to win in front of what will likely be a hostile Nebraska crowd. Although important to remember there is a long way to go in the volleyball season, although a loss tonight will put penn state behind the eight ball in their quest to keep their streak of Big Ten titles alive.
