Ah, a brand new season, everyone has so much hope that their favorite team will go undefeated and walk off with a crystal football, then week one happens. So ends the beginning of the ®Lol Up the Score portion of the schedule and we've learned very little, but some bubbles have already burst. The pickings were few and far between for meaningful, competitive games, considering some of the bigger takeaways from the weekend might have been, "What's with all the lightning?" and Brian Kelly curses too much for a Catholic school and turns redder than anyone thought was humanly possible. You don't get rewarded for beating I-AA FCS squads, at best you move laterally and at worst you disappear entirely, thus the general vertical inactivity of a good number of teams. LSU is the big climber this week on the short-handed effort against Oregon, who sticks around because 1. most teams will only have one week to prepare for their offense and 2. the overall poor showing of the Pac-12 indicates winning the conference isn't out of the question. Give a welcome to South Florida and Baylor for their nice Week 1 stories and say farewell to the Auburn Tigers. Also, congratulations on Boise State peaking for the season at number 4, unfortunately given their remaining schedule and Georgia might be terrible it's probably downhill from here. Things should start getting juicier next week.
