I never thought I would be a Patriot's Fan
Ever since the Steelers picked Franco Harris over a much-more-heralded Lydell Mitchell as a first-round draft choice back in the early Seventees, I have been a Steeler Fan.
Even though I grew up idolizing Jim Brown, it was the daring first-round pick of Harris that turned the tide in favor of the hapless Steelers, who had never won anything at all before Franco showed up.
Even after they let Matt Bahr go, in favor of some loser kicker from Pitt ( Carson Long?? Maybe??) I remained a Steeler Fan.
Now that the Stillers are out of the race, due to age-related injuries and illnesses, there is another team that has temporarily earned my loyalty, at least for this weekend, and, Krishna willing, the rest of the year.
A very large, gaudy, tasteless, Super Bowl Ring will go a long way in competing with the urban legend for top talent in the coming years.
Let's Go BOB, do not worry about recruiting this year.
JUST GET THE FRICKING RING!
For Patriots's Dream,
Joe from Boalsburg

YEAH JFB!!!
Single digits with the wind chill and high winds Sat night. Hate to say it, but I think that favors the Tebows.

age realted injuries and illnesses?
I’m not a Tebow fan, but damn, the Broncos get no credit for that win?
"my dad says Michigan used to be good"
No Hampton and Kiessel on the Defensive Line
Ryan Clark is street clothes w/ Sickle Cell. Ben at 70%, at best…. They get some credit, they made the plays they had too, but there wasn’t much left of the Steelers at the end of season.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
Put it this way.
Watching that game and how beat up the Steelers were, as a Pats fan, I would have rather played the Steelers in their current state of roster health.

On the last play of the game
The Steelers had ten players within three yards of the line of scrimmage and fourth walking forward. They played that way the whole game. Tebow completed like 8 passes but with an average completion of nearly 40 yards a catch.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
Ike Taylor wasn't helping that.
He was trying to make beat Willis’s Ticketcity record for worst performance by a DB.

so then the Steelers were outcoached?
or Tebow outperformed them?
/wonders why the F i’m getting into this discussion on a blog with a large Steeler presence…
"my dad says Michigan used to be good"
Quite possibly
I’d frame it more as a perfectly reasonable plan that didn’t work. They were clearly rushing four guys, not blitzing, and dong their best hold contain to let Tebow throw into coverage. But down two starting D-Lineman he was getting 8, 10 sometimes 12 seconds to throw the ball. I don’t care who your cover guys are, that’s far too long.
Going into the last play, Denver had run on 21 of 22 first down plays. They caught the Steelers in the worst possible defense, ballgame.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
Settling for field goals on their first two drives
killed the Steelers. So did injuries. So did Tebow’s deep ball.
The Bronco’s deserved to win; they played about as well as they could. The Steelers played poorly enough to lose, and there’s plenty of blame to go around for it.
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.
Yes, about the Field Goals...
That has been a problem all season too. The offensive line is mediocre on it’s best day, and Mendenhall isn’t the strongest runner in the world, and again, the line wasn’t whole, and Mendenhall didn’t play.
The Broncos deserved to win because their players played better than the Steelers played. But there are some footnotes to add to the discussion.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
I'm just razzing you guys
I didn’t realize how many injuries the Steelers had sustained. I don’t follow the ins and outs of pro football very intensely. (personnel wise I mean)
"my dad says Michigan used to be good"
Bronco's kicker
could have kicked a 90 yarder to win the game, and Tebow still would have received all the credit.
I don’t think that the cold and wind favors Tebow, remember how well he did in Buffalo?
I am from MA, so therefore a Pat’s fan, we welcome all bandwagoners.
Perhaps, that's a media problem
But in reality he threw for over 300 yards in a playoff game in his second year in the league, picked up first downs with his legs against an NFL defense and threw a game winning touchdown pass in overtime. So he does get all the credit and deserves it.
Joe, this post sickens me
mostly because I am forced to agree! I never thought I would see the day I would cheering from the New England freakin’ Patriots to win another Super Bowl. And yet, with the Eagles playing golf… GO PATS (I guess??)!!
The depth of both my sadness and anger is unfathomable.

As a Colts fan, I have this to say:
Fuck the Patriots.
As a Penn State fan I have this to say:
All right, just this once, I will find it acceptable for the Patriots to win.
Ew, she's presenting like a mandrill!
Oh the bitter sound
of someone who couldn’t even get someone from the Pats front office to interview for a GM job.

Truthfully, I'm bitter from all of those years in the early 2000's,
when the Colts just couldn’t beat the Pats in the playoffs. To me, the win over them in the 2006 AFC title game was more gratifying than the Super Bowl win, because 1) it was over the Pats, and 2) 25 years or so (to that point) of being a Colts fan had conditioned me to believe that I’d never see the Colts in the Super Bowl in my lifetime. I haven’t really followed the ins and outs of the GM search.
Ew, she's presenting like a mandrill!
Haha, yeah.
It’s been one of the most fun rivalries I can remember. Just some good natured ribbing on my part.
Interesting tidbit. I was in Montreal for the regular season game in, I want to say 2007. Everyone in Montreal was either a Pats or Colts fan. It was a heated game with the locals.

No worries, it's all good.
I will say that I did actually root for the Patriots when they played that SB against the Eagles. And I would also root for them again if they played the Ravens in the post season. That’s one team I find it impossible to like.
Ew, she's presenting like a mandrill!
Yeah.
Sadly, I don’t see it. The Ravens look like the AFC team this year.

I was totally befuddled
by the Colts’ decision to fire the Polians. I read all the stuff about Chris not being that popular in the building with some folks and Irsay wanting to take a more active role, but holy crap, it’s BILL POLIAN!!
The depth of both my sadness and anger is unfathomable.

I'm hearing they just love Sanchez there.

both of my football teams have
stupid off field distractions. i have low expectations.
keep winning ugly
Root for the Pats? Has heII frozen over ? no? then I don't think so
Good luck to Bill O’Brien once he takes over at PSU full -time , until then I sure hope he distracted on Saturday

You are given a Pass since your team, which is obviously the RAVENS and not Penn State is your preference.
May God, and Tebow, forgive you.

Cannot
I just cannot find it in me to root for the Pats. I am not even a steelers fan, I am actually and Eagles fan but I just cannot root for that organization.
Some guy at PSU Hershey Med Center just discovered a virus that eats cancer. Where were the CNN trucks for that? THON will probably break $10 mil this year. Put that on "Outside the Lines".
This makes no sense at all.
Of course, after listening to Philadelphia Talk Radio, with every caller complaining about the Phillies, who have been the most successful team on the East Coast in many years, and recoginizing the history of boo-ing Santa, because he was too skinny, we need to overlook some things coming out of SEPA.

A quote from Eugene Lewis after his visit
“A lot of the guys were excited. I talked to some of the recruits and everybody feels good about Coach O’Brien,” Lewis said. “He wants to bring the Patriots offense to Penn State. How can you not be excited after seeing what they did against the Broncos? We watched the game and we all hope he gets a Super Bowl ring, I think it would be a great thing for him.”

I’d root for them so BOB can get on campus earlier.

I think you may have to admit
That not everybody has that Arlo Guthrie CD. Actually, I think you may have to admit that there are three copies of that CD, owned by you, me and Mel, and that nobody besides us has ever heard it. Not that Grocery Blues isn’t a great song, it’s just that you’re getting into Captain Beefheart territory here.
