over-done for sure
but when the first “P” was shouted, it was kind of cool.
I had visitors Illini visitors for the 2007 game. They were not expecting it. They thought it was way cool.

to clarify, I also think this is a good thing

GOOD.
I couldn’t have hated that lame-ass Jock Jam any more, even without the knowledge of Gary Glitter’s personal life.
I am sorry, that is dumb
I had no clue who wrote that song or anything behind it.The article even states blatantly that PSU was not giving him any money or anything, It wasn’t like they announced the guys name everytime it was played.
Keep the song, this is getting out of hand, allthis PC crap all over the place. Really ask any Penn Stater, before this article came out who wrote that song or anything about Gllitter, I guarantee 99% would have no clue about either.
Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose - Janis Joplin
Yeah, the reasoning behind it is dumb
If you want to get into the business of condemning works of art based on the misdeeds of its artists, you’re not going to have much art left.
Does this mean the Lion’s Michael Jackson dance routines should be discontinued too? Probably.

It still was better than piped-in music.

I haven't been this mad in a while.
This quite possibly may be the stupidest thing I’ve heard! Is it not safe to say that the majority of musicians have committed some sort of morally reprehensible deed? The Temptations were huge drug users, are we going to stop playing “Shout”? I’m sure Bon Jovi had a wonderful time during the 80’s, are we going to stop playing “Livin on a Prayer”? I don’t even need to say anything about Lady Gaga, do I?
We can’t avoid every bad thing anyone has ever done and sterilize this world. And by doing so, are we improving anything? Are we somehow convincing the world that Penn State is ’better" now?
EVERYONE has done something we’re not proud of – it just depends where on the scale of “bad” you want to place it. We can’t run away from everything. At some point we will need to stand up for who we are, blemishes and all!
Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and though we are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven; that which we are, We Are - Tennyson
If this is what gets you mad
Then you haven’t been paying attention.
That song sucked when they were playing it during the ‘90s. I don’t care what killed it, just make sure that it’s dead.

"are we going to stop playing "Livin on a Prayer"?"
I sure hope so.
Run.

I guarantee that Dr. Bundy is getting
plenty of pressure from the AD about this. It’s just another talking point for the haters, and I agree with the sentiment of “I’d rather explain changes to Penn Staters than why we’re playing the song to critics”. The Blue Band is meant to be a minor symbol for the university, and Dr. Bundy is taking the uncontroversial route rather than allowing it to be a topic of discussion about how “Penn State still doesn’t get it”.
FWIW, the band hates it too. It’s overdone, lame, and they recognize that the crowd is pretty much never into it.
I disagree that the crowd is pretty much never into it
I’m always there surrounded by people screaming the “P” “S” “U” and “Let’s…go…PSU” parts.

You've never been on the field
and watched maybe half the student section swinging their shakers. And if we get 25% participation from the whole stadium on the “hey-hey” “hey-yo” section, it’s lucky. I got dozens and dozens of complaints about how it’s cool for pre-game, and maybe once for something really huge like a momentum-changing turnover, but not the 3-4 times it’s played for every single game.
That probably
depends on the game I would think. I can imagine a noon kickoff against Eastern Illinois not getting much, but whenever we have an 8:00 game or even a 3:30 good opponent, that place rocks to the song and you get everyone going….Just my opinion.

Good to drop it
At least Bundy admits he’s dropping this in response to outside pressure. He’s an honest guy.
It’s been a good song because they could work in bits of PSU songs and everyone is familiar with it, but it’s time for something new anyway.

Why did it suck?
so bad. Very interested as to why people thought it was terrible. Is it overplayed in arenas nationwide, yes, but we personalized it to get it “PSU” related.
Also, people complained about the piped-in music and wanted more Blue Band, then complained about this, which do you want? In all honsetly you need a song like that that is known by all people not just the “fans” like our fight songs with lyrics you actually need to know.
The great thing about Rock N Roll Part 2 is that when I’d bring friends up for a game, they could figure out what it was the very first time as soon as the “P” came out..point accomplished.
You didn't know?
Music selection and tastes are supposed to illustrate how him and “in” you are. The more obscure the better.
I’m sorry, but blanket statements are proven false 99% of the time, and if you make a blanket statement about college football, there’s a good chance that one exception will be Joe Paterno. - AdamShell @ BSD

err...unfortunate timing for the typo...
*hip and “in”
