Crimson Tide, Is It Lonely On Top?
Bama is on top of the recruiting list again, with 27 commitments in 2011. Many SEC schools are guilty of oversigning, but they all have, in at least one year, kept their commitments to lower than the 25 limit during the last five years. That is, all of them except for Sweet Alabama, who has exceeded the NCAA limit of 25 in each of the last five years.
Bama is number one, and I have to go and do number two.

Not even a pretense of trying to stay within NCAA limits.

NCAA
Until the NCAA really cracks down on this, why should they stop? smh
Some guy at PSU Hershey Med Center just discovered a virus that eats cancer. Where were the CNN trucks for that? THON will probably break $10 mil this year. Put that on "Outside the Lines".
Are you telling me that
Schools in the SEC are technically breaking the rules for recruiting and oversigning? I do not believe that, just like I do not believe that Craig Jame Killed 5 Hookers while at SMU.

No, They Just Dump Student-Athletes who do not make the depth chart, and replace them with frosh.
Technically within the rules, ethically, is is another issue.
For example, the B1G has rules strictly enforcing the 85/25 limits. The SEC has practices that skirt these rules, ubiquitously.
Why else do you think they have so many consecutive BCS champs?
I posted earlier data showing that 80% of this year’s bowl contests were won by the team giving more scholarships than their competitors.
Oversigning is a competitive advantage that is clear and evident.
The NCAA does not have a handle on it.

That made me laugh because it makes it sound like the NCAA has a handle on some stuff.

Saw your fanpost on oversigning and bowl success
I also liked when the SEC commissioner argued at the beginning of this previous season, that the SEC wanted to curb oversigning. Yeah I will believe that when I see it. Nice to talk about it, another thing to actually do something about it, to preserve the sanctity of the game, and not screw over these kids.

Google "Oversigning in College Football"
There is no lack of interesting material on the subject.
The key is signing many more kids in February than there are scholarships available, and thencutting kids before the August deadline, when the 85 limit must be met.
Medical hardships, transfers to Jucos, transfers to other schools, or simple denial of promised scholarships at the end of the day because none is available are all common practices throughout the SEC.

I'm not gonna lie
I practice oversigning in NCAA 12. I’ve won 47 games in a row. With Duke.

Me too.
But here’s why…even if I was satisfied with a recruiting class of 15 kids by week 8, the damn game will automatically throw offers out to 1 and 2* kids until I’ve used up all 25 schollies. So if I’m going to have a full class anyway, I’d prefer to go after the 4 and 5* kids.
Consider this my official declaration of non-support of child molestation.
Yup.
Otherwise you end up with 13 WRs in a class and that’s just a pain. So I might as well spread them all out over positions I need.
I wanted to “work my way up” through the coaching ranks so I started at New Mexico State, was there for 3 season, offered the Duke position and took it. I’ve been at Duke for 6 or 7 years and have won 3 CCG’s and a MNC. Now I’m waiting for my dream job (aka PSU). Wisc has offered me a job twice, maybe I should take it just to burn it to the ground?

I did the same thing with regards to working my way up the food chain. I started as D coordinator at Temple, got offered the D coordinator job at Pitt (ugh), my recruiting unfortunately turned them into a complete powerhouse before Louisiana Tech offered me a HC gig. Won a NC in my last season, thought I’d be able to parlay that into a nice, upper-tier head coaching gig. After a slew of offers to coach Indiana, UVA, and the like, I took a demotion back to DC for PSU. My D won the NC, but I suspect I won’t get promoted and will have to look elsewhere.
This coaching thing was a really nice addition to the franchise. I wish it allowed a little more flexibility in the contracts though. I’d like to have the possibility of getting my contract bought out before the term is up, or my HC getting fired in November by the stuffed shirts so I could take over as interim head coach before getting unceremoniously shown the door after the season.

I see what you did there

Does anyone else have a problem recruiting fullbacks? For the life of me, not one is interested in coming to psu

Impossible
And most of the time the FBs are only 1 or 2 star so I just turn a player from another position into a FB. Usually a TE/LB/RB.

Yeah, same
I also find it a bit ridiculous that an 82 overall WR ends up as a 45 overall CB if I try to switch positions. I get that a safety can’t be plugged in at left guard without a serious downgrade, but c’mon.
Consider this my official declaration of non-support of child molestation.
Yes..so irritating
Or that their speed goes from 94 to 83. It doesn’t matter what position you play, if you can run, you can run.

Why bother when you can do this.......

Whoops........
That update part wasn’t in there the other day when I read that. When I read it, Taylor was still fully committed to Alabama regardless because that is where he wanted to be. Carry on.

That's a ridiculous situation.
One line from that article stood out to me:
I understand college football is a business.
That perspective scares me. I’m not going to be naive and think that no one at Penn State considers it a business. As a matter of fact, I know that Penn State football has always been considered a business under Paterno. But fortunately for us, that business was in educating young people. I guess we’ve been very privileged to not have to choose between the business of winning and the business of educating students, as we’ve succeeded at both. I just hope that we never get so focused on the business of winning that we lose sight of being in the business of education and producing honorable adults.
It is easy to go down into Hell; night and day, the gates of dark Death stand wide; but to climb back again, to retrace one's steps to the upper air - there's the rub, the task.

HAHAHAHAHAH.
In the interview of the first article, the recruit said unequivocally that Alabama was getting him a job near his house while he worked out and waited to sign the following January. In the update they ask his guardian and he says, effectively “not while I was present at least.”
HAHAHAHA. I mentioned in the JFB post about JVP the other day how that must be a recruiting violation, the reporter must have realized the same.
