Nice run by Redd.

No real idea, 09.
What I saw is our guys pointing fingers at the O-line, as if they had moved. Guess the refs thought their jobs were threatened, and flagged us.

If McGloin plays I think we'd win this game.
Total inability to get a first down is the vast majority of the problem.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
by jesse. on Jan 2, 2012 2:56 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
McGloin is awful
Why is it that watching Bolden’s awfulness causes people to forget how bad McGloin is.
That doesn’t even begin to encompass the missed blocks and general cluelessness of our line.
How do you not understand the difference between the two?
McGloin, not great. Bolden is the worst quarterback to ever start a game for Penn State. I can’t think of another quarterback, for any team, that Bolden is better than.
Get two first downs and flip field position, give the defense some time to rest and adjust, and this is a different game.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...

Exactly my point.
I’d like to apologize for Chris for underestimating just how much Bolden sucks.
Are you sure Joe done it this a'way?
by ReadingRambler on Jan 2, 2012 3:02 PM EST up reply actions
I understand the difference
But it’s not enough to make this offense score 4 TDs. Field position doesn’t matter, they are going 80 yards at will.
McG is marginally less awful, but not remotely competent.
That's really not true.
They have two long passes, three field goals and two missed field goals.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
Yes.
Oh, yeah, and I love how Keenum acts like he’s Joe Montana for that broken coverage before halftime. Douche.

Penn State can’t move the ball because Rob Bolden is terrible.

He had just as many shoulda-been pick sixes plus 2 actual pick sixes plus three more picks.
It’s hard to believe people can forget all this, or that it bothers me so much that they do.

24 points - 14 points for Florida
That works out to less than Bolden so far today.
Yeah, he also *MOVED THE FOOTBALL*
If the Wisconsin game compared to Sparty’s games against that same team taught us anything, it’s that you must move the football and rest your defense to have a chance against good offenses.

Not really faking to 9-3
Just playing against a shitty conference where 10-14 pts per game was enough.
Do what you want to do, but I find dismissing our team’s hard work to overcome their flaws and the hard work of their opponents to be pathetically reactionary.
There was nothing “lucky” about our season and how soon this fanbase apparently turns against its team. Nothing new there, but it strikes me as silly to forget how much crap this team’s gone through in the past few weeks.

Yes, this game had the potential to be very similar to that Holiday Bowl.
Opponent’s high powered offense featuring QB with gaudy numbers against a good, solid defense. Differences from that game: the defense actually made some plays in that BYU game, and most importantly, a pretty decent QB performance by Tony Sacca.
Ew, she's presenting like a mandrill!

Absolutely true
The way the defense is playing makes me feel we may still lose but having an actual passing threat would have allowed PSU to control the ball more with the run and keep them off the field.
McGloin is significantly better than Bolden. I can’t believe I wasted weeks of my life this fall debating with people who felt differently.
by mundyscorner99 on Jan 2, 2012 3:03 PM EST up reply actions
I mean, even that first Houston drive...
A bunch of nothing plays, and two long passes — one a semi-broken play, the other a huge HURRRR in our secondary. But PSU’s defense was making some plays out there. They’re playing alone, though. Bolden is too much of an anchor, and nobody else is really helping on offense aside from Justin Brown.

Did you notice that after our first touchdown, the defense seemed to play much better? It’s almost as though moving the football and giving your defense rest improves their play.
Houston is not the better team if Penn State has a quarterback who can take advantage of 8 and 9 guys playing in the box.

I also felt the same way last year about the running game
You may recall that Royster suddenly had holes to run through once McGloin started playing. Maybe it was just a coincidence or the threat of a passing game to open things up for the running game. I feel it was the latter.

Tell me how that play was different than all the plays BJ used to make on Mills'
underthrown ducks into triple coverage.
You're blaming the wrong guy and that's dumb.
But, anyway, Mills never underthrew them that badly.
Are you sure Joe done it this a'way?
by ReadingRambler on Jan 2, 2012 3:01 PM EST up reply actions
I'm blaming both of them.
I started out stating that the ball was horribly underthrown. Mills absolutely underthrew them that badly. And BJ made plays on them. But BJ also seemed to anticipate the underthrows – I was never sure if they were intentional or not – I just assumed not and BJ was ridiculous.
Moye had them beat deep.
If he anticipates an underthrow and Bolden throws it where it should be, then we miss out on a TD.
Moye was running full speed and gthat ball was underthrown by 10 yards
There’s only so much he can do to comeback to the ball. He was slowing down, but you can only get back so far.
I don't have any way to replay it, so that's probably fair. I still think BJ would have made
that play.
It's possible but I think there are very, very few players who could make that play
I certainly wouldn’t blame Moye for not getting to it, that’s for sure.

All of our qb's need to go
1. Bolden is terrible.
2. If Jones wanted to play he would have gotten his act together and got his grades up to par. He has had 2 years to do it.
2. McGloin isn’t the answer although he is our best eligible guy.
IMO McGloin COULD be the answer if he could improve his consistency.
When he’s on, he’s really very good. He has large lapses though where he’s just not accurate enough. Then he forces things and sucks.
Unfortunately, I think it’s pretty rare for that to improve.
it would also be cool
if he wasn’t a puink asshole who got knocked out by one of his own receivers
"my dad says Michigan used to be good"
Well, yeah.
Though we really don’t know how much was McGloin’s fault and how much was Drake’s fault. He could certainly grow up some more, though.

That catch was a little tougher than the last one.
Should have caught it though. Adjustment was too tough for it to be a TD. He would have fallen down if he had caught it.
He runs himself out of passes like that all the time
It’s weird, he misjudges and runs himself under where the pass is coming down
On that one I thought Devon was running straight down the field
and the ball was thrown too wide. Devon tried to adjust, but couldn’t get over far enough and find the ball and bring it in with two hands. Tough adjustment, but a D1 WR is expected to get to it. I know what you’re talking about – I just don’t think that happened on that play. Could be wrong though.

Nice celebration, Cougar High.
Your head coach looks like Dale Gribbell and Kingsbury looks like a womanizing chain smoker from Metz.
Screw yourselves.

My girlfriend and I were just sitting next to Darren Perry at the bar
And we didn’t even know it. Walked out with 10 minutes left saying, “I just can’t even watch anymore.” Super nice guy though. He only mentioned he went to Penn State and was class of 1992, before our time haha.
Did he say he was going to be the next head coach? I believe Joe Schad said so!

Wait I didn't realize this was a Morelli joke
Because Morelli is twice the QB McGloin is, say nothing about Bolden
I'll take McGloin over Morelli
McGloin has at least thrown some clutch passes and drives. Morelli was at his absolute worst in the 4th Q. Both were/are immature.
I agree.
McGloin’s immature, but, in games, he’s a much better leader than Morelli.

Scrap is a great DC
and would be a good HC for Penn State, imho, Aurabass. Personally, this has been two months of Hell, part of which has to have been our coaches looking over their shoulders at the search committee, and wondering what is going to happen to them.
Plus, the kids’ attention has been elsewhere. There was a report that even Silas Redd, our good RB, thought about transferring! Too many uncertainties, with no clarity to help clear ANY of the fog.

Agreed
Still a good to great DC, but I think his ability as an HC is still up in the air. Tough to judge someone’s job performance when they aren’t really given a fair shot
Leaving those timeouts up there still annoys the hell out of me. No excuse for that, unless, you know, you’re giving up.
"Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things."
LAPSU, I think
Scrap realized a win was just not in the cards for us. It’s like some days at work for me: I have big plans to get a bunch of stuff done, but then I get a phone call or e-mail that starts the train wreck. I end up just trying to survive the day, with hopes for a better tomorrow.
"Make haste to reassure us, I beg you, and tell us that our fellow citizens understand us, support us, and protect us as we ourselves are protecting the glory of the Empire.
"If it should be otherwise, if we should have to leave our bleached bones on these desert sands in vain, then beware the fury of the Legions."
Haha, totally get that analogy
Still, we weren’t out of the game into the 4th quarter, technically. As a HC, I feel like if you use one of those timeouts to stop the clock, it gives the impression that you still think you have a shot. And if that impression rubs off on just one player who sets one block that leads to a big run, then momentum swings back in your favor, all because you called a timeout to draw up a play.
Not saying that we would have won if Scrap had called a timeout, but at least give the players a shot, even if they’ve been getting stomped up and down the field all day.
I don’t know, I’ve wanted Bradley to get the job ever since he took over, he’s done a great job under very rough circumstances, but laying down like that when we weren’t out of it mathematically yet just annoys me.
"Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things."
That makes perfect sense to me PSU_Lions_84

I had a class with Morelli once
it was some stupid Gen Ed, creative writing or something ridiculous. We had to come up with alliterations for our names (Ridiculous Redd, Stupendous Still, you get the idea) and then write something building off of that.
So we had to present these things at the end of it, and of course, Morelli’s is a gem: Awesome Morelli. The professor just stared at him. It was fantastic.
Moral of the story: Morelli was a mongoloid.

No, he was on the yo-yo
Clearly he wasn’t mentally able to handle that. Now he’s damaged goods as long as he stays. He still might not turn into a good (or even decent) QB, but the revolving door early in the system did him no favors.
Bolden doesn't sit on the sidelines during practice and do nothing.
What strikes me is he has shown NO improvement. You don’t improve on Saturdays. You improve Sunday through Friday, and show it on Saturday.
Either he failed, or the coaches failed him. But he’s not even a serviceable signal caller.
"Is that a shot at me? 'cause that makes me want to read it all the less."
Not saying
this isn’t a failing on Bolden’s part, or that he isn’t a terrible QB right now. A mentally stronger person wouldn’t have been affected, or even been motivated by the competition. But that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have at least been serviceable.
How can a QB be a 4 star recruit
