Joe Paterno Near Death?
Joe Paterno off Respirator near Death
Report Paterno in grave condition
Breaking News This announcement came at the end of the Tennessee win over UCONN on CBS
So sorry to hear for my BSD friends - Sad day in Happy Valley
But there may be some hope
Joe Paterno, battling cancer, in serious condition after complications AP reportFrom CBSsports
Joe Paterno, the man who for decades was synonymous with the powerhouse Penn State football program, is reportedly in declining health. Onward State, the student-run Penn State newspaper, reported on Saturday that Paterno had been taken off his respirator that morning, according to a source close to the family. Further, a report by Tom McAndrew of Blue White Illustrated indicates thatPaterno's extended family has been summoned to the hospital.
If those reports are true, Paterno likely has, at best, a matter of days to live. It may be even shorter than that, as Mike Sisak of the Citizens' Voice in Wilkes-Barre is reporting that Paterno is "near death."
It was only a week ago that Paterno gave his first interview since his November firing at the height of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. In it, interviewer Sally Jenkins noted that Paterno was wheelchair-bound, wearing a wig, and reduced to whispers due to his battle with lung cancer. Further, Paterno is 85, and the sad fact is that there just aren't many 85-year-old men who can begin and win a fight with a disease like lung cancer. Still, Jenkins also noted that Paterno remained sharp, and his familiar tone and personality are evident in the interview snippets that were posted online.
Citizens Voice
Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno is near death, a source confirmed to The Citizens' Voice.
Paterno's wife, Sue, summoned close friends and longtime staff members this afternoon to the State College hospital where Paterno has been undergoing treatments since last weekend.
Paterno wanted to see them and say a final goodbye, Sue told one of the staff members, the source said.
Paterno, diagnosed with cancer days after his Nov. 9 firing, has been weakened by radiation and chemotherapy treatments, a member of his family told the Voice.
AP report
“Over the last few days Joe Paterno has experienced further health complications,” spokesman Dan McGinn said in a brief statement Saturday to The Associated Press. “His doctors have now characterized his status as serious.
“His family will have no comment on the situation and asks that their privacy be respected during this difficult time,” he said.

This is horrible
I have no connection to Penn State whatsoever (i live in California) and my heart dropped when I heard this. Hoping for the best for JoePa and Penn State fans.
My faith in humanity was restored a little bit after seeing everyone wish Joe well on twitter. As bad as it sounds I honestly thought more people would post some nasty tweets… God bless you Joe.

One of the Greatest men to ever live in PA
I was told that he was read his last rights a couple of hours ago. He will be the man I tell tell my grandkids about. So sad that his fear of ending up like the Bear came true….

So sorry to hear this
From what I’ve learned about him, he was a great man, not just a great football coach.
We in Bulldog Nation are praying for Joe.
Obviously, we all hope this news turns out to be just a rumor, but our thoughts and prayers are with him and the entire Penn State family.

Great to see fellow SEC fans
posting like this here
Born in Fort Sanders - 1st Residence Aconda Court (Alumni Hall) - 1st games at Neyland 1947 - Mother = TORCHBEARER - Dad grad of UT & UT Law + professor BORN ORANGE and BLEED ORANGE .......
A family spokesperson is saying that
Paterno is in serious condition after experiencing health complications. I guess that’s better than “critical” so there’s hope.
AP article
Says he is in serious condition, does not say “near death”

I hope they are right and the others are wrong

Of course, what is the line when it comes to an 85 year old man with cancer?
I am Sandy's bitch.
Penn State Forever
Hang in there Joe
Prayers with the Paterno family, even more than usual. My coworkers won’t understand, but it feels like losing a member of the family.
Hope it’s false.
I am Sandy's bitch.
Penn State Forever
Joe
is a great man. I swear if he dies and all I hear about is this scandal crap in the coming days, I’m f’ing done. I’m f’ing done with all these clowns. They aren’t fit to tie his shoes or have their face anointed by his spit.
Joe did great things for the sport, the university, and countless young people’s lives. That’s a hell of a lot more than all these other pieces of garbage have or will ever do.
WHY IS NOT OUR PRIMARY PAGE????
I am sick and tired of receiving my through the ESPN ticker…
Let’s go fellas, get yourdamn game face on and keep us informed!!
It's up now
I just happened to catch it on CBS because of the UT vs Uconn game I was watching

We all hope Joe will be around for a long time
We all know he is not in good health. I just pray that when God takes him, he does it peacefully and with friends and family nearby.
That which we are, WE ARE...PENN STATE.
Forever.
God Bless you and your family Coach.
We all love you!

No wonder it is raining here in North Carolina -
even Heaven is weeping for Joe and his family.
"Make haste to reassure us, I beg you, and tell us that our fellow citizens understand us, support us, and protect us as we ourselves are protecting the glory of the Empire.
"If it should be otherwise, if we should have to leave our bleached bones on these desert sands in vain, then beware the fury of the Legions."

All is not lost
Serious is the second worst condition, so this is REALLY BAD NEWS, but not necessarily the worst news.
Stopping chemo treatments due to complications is not unusual either.
I’m not giving up hope.

Irony
There were always rumors that Joe expected to exit this world just like Bear Bryant, once his coaching days came to an end – promptly. Some people even speculated that he feared it.
They’re wrong of course. Joe was not afraid of anything, a fighter to the last. He most certianly was not afraid of anything to do with the scandal, and thus had no motive to cover anything up or make anything up.
That’s only for shallow and ignorant cynics to believe.
