An online shot for the Old Man.
It looks bad. It's looked worse.
Maybe not. But until it's official, I will hold a good thought. A prayer even, on a night I've dreaded for sometime.
New Orleans funeral rules apply. I'm sad you're.... well, I'm not going there yet. But I'm sure as hell glad I knew you. And in your honor we'll do a shot at 9:00 just for you.
Tell me what you drank, and tell me a happy story.
For the glory. One more time.
EDIT: This went up before the rumor word, became the quasi official word. I'll leave it as is, as the last thing I wrote about the guy while he was still alive. I'm really just stunned. And sad.
And I'm happy that he had such a great family that loved him, and that was there with him until the end. He deserved that. And he probably wanted that more than anything else.

The thing about all this
is that I went to the Iowa game this year and truly enjoyed that as much as any sporting event I’ve ever been to, and I mean any event as I’ve been to a lot of college & pro games, an AFC Championship game, and a Stanley Cup final game. The weather was perfect and I ran into someone from college I hadn’t seen for a long time. Good God, that was just 3.5 months ago.
I've been downhearted baby, I've been downhearted baby, ever since the day we met . . .

So weird. I bought a bottle of Old Granddad on Thursday. I actually buy it now, because of Joe. A friend asked me yesterday why I bought it and I said it was in honor of Joe…
"Every player we have, someone-maybe a parent, a grandparent, someone-poured their soul into that young man. They are handing that young man off to us. They are giving us their treasure, and it's our job to make sure we give them back that young man intact and ready to face the world."

I hate tequila
But I’ll be stealing a shot of my husband’s expensive pink tequila.
I was a spoiled PSU fan- my first PSU game in person was win #300 my senior year of high school. I was hooked before that, but became a diehard after that. Was in the original group of students that slept out for games, starting with Nebraska in 2002.

Joe… my best memory of Joe is jogging on Park Avenue one morning and seeing him walking to campus. He tipped his head towards me since I’m a lady (and BSDiva) and I said hello. Simple and understated, just like Joe.

Not Joe’s brand, but it’s the best I have and what feels right.
I read my son “Hello, Nittany Lion” tonight and when we were done he asked if he could go to Penn State. I hugged him harder than I remember ever doing before. He just knew what to say.

It is a treasure to know a Man of Joe Paterno’s character. To Joe’s Family, it is quite an honor to have experienced this Man in strength and weakness. My one experience
with Joe was after a BW game when I was a teenager sometime in the late 90’s…my cousin, grandpa, and I were hanging out tossing the football in the grass lots (back when they were right there) and we were by Courtney Brown’s family, I remember Courtney coming down after and being amazed at his size…
Then the man himself JVP comes by us on his way to his house…and of course we can’t find our pen and paper, but we were able to get a picture of my cousin (and the top of my head) standing right next to him and his hand reaching out to shake ours…..
That will live with me forever
Vodka.
I watched the 914 Boston College game today. I was 7. I was there.

A bottle of Troegs will have to do. Thank you Joe. For inspiring so many people to better themselves. For all you did to better the university. For everything.
Was a student from late 1980 - 84.
Saw Joe coming out of Old Main one day and said, “Hi, Coach!” He returned my greeting just as cheerfully as if I was one of his players. No pretense, no acting like he was too important to speak to Joe Average Student.
Say hello to my Dad for me, Coach. He sure admired you, too.

Grey Goose- two shots. I needed it.
My closet encounter with Joe was answering the phone when he called at a family member’s house I was at. I fumbled the phone and tried to say Hi but was awestruck and it came out something close to “uhhhh ummmm”. He said he would call back later. Pathetically small moment for mankind, huge moment for me. I may need to do another shot now.
Thanks for sharing Mlee.
I will confess that I’m afraid to go to sleep. I feel like as long as I keep watch, Joe will be ok. I’m worried that if I go to sleep I will wake up and find out he didn’t pull through the night.

Funny, I had the same thought.
As irrational as it is, I keep thinking “Joe needs us right now.”
Then I realize the truth, I think we need still need Joe.

A fellow Bostonian- yes me too. My husband has jokingly said that I've been keeping a JoePa vigil for a while.
I’m going through a lot with my actual grandpa the last few months (got a call that he might die the night of the Nebraska game) that I’m starting to feel like I need them more than they need me. They are both incredible yet imperfect men, and I really don’t know what the world will be like once they are both gone.
You're right.
When I start to take myself too seriously, I try to remind myself . . . if the world comes to a screeching hold when I’m gone, I’ll be the first the world couldn’t do without. Somehow it doesn’t feel like it applies to those who have really impacted my life. Like ppfcpp said above, the truth is we still need them. But if we use what they taught us to be better people, they will live on in us.

I don't think they are that benevolent, or aware.
Ignoring their morals, they fired the man at 10pm on a Thursday without considering a riot. Don’t expect them to be any smarter now.
The BoT has to be in panic mode.
If Joe does pass before he’s honored or the university has reached out to him to make some sort of amends, and he dies outside the good graces of the university, the backlash could make what’s going on now look like a routine family squabble at the Paterno family dinner table.

I'm a gin drinker, but in the Joe Paterno shrine freezer I keep...
… a TOP SECRET bottle of STARAYA MOSKVA (which I don’t much share but drank tonight).
The rest of the label of that bottle is written in Russian Cyrilic (sp).
That being said,
Wyborova is in the un-top-secret part of the JoePA shrine freezer.
Grey Goose madarin is on counter at bar at the JoePa shrine.
