Memorial Tickets on Ebay - Wrong
As soon as they announced that tickets would be required for the memorial service. I feared that it was only a matter of time before someone tried to sell them. I am not sure what Penn State could have done to prevent this, but it just makes me sick to see people profit on something like this. Our own Ben Jones did not get tickets, but this person got them for the sheer purpose of reselling them. Talk about dancing on Joe's grave.

I think that very few of us Penn Staters got tickets
The resellers have T1 lines and higher-powered computers to give them the ability to purchase quickly. I am thinking of starting up a fake eBay account just to bid it up, and then not pay, just to piss these assholes off.
As an aside, 16,000 seats for 400,000 alumni is not even remotely adequate. They should have held it at Beaver Stadium. I’m sure all of us would have come out in the cold to show our respects.
Not much they could have done...
The Paterno family had no obligation to make this a public ceremony, but did so out of the kindness of their hearts. Not sure what they could have done considering the weather and timing.
At this point every home game at Beaver Stadium will be a memorial service, but moreso a celebration of the the foundation Joe Paterno created at Penn State.
When did they even announce they were doing this?
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
I believe all of the arrangements were officially announced yesterday...
The second part was just a thought by me.
I just found out
That everything inside Beaver Stadium was winterized, and it would take a week to get it ready. I retract my second statement.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.

Shameful
I tried to contact the seller to tell them what I thought of them, but the seller does not accept messages. So I report it as inapproriate to ebay.

Not that it will necessarily do any good...
but I sent the seller a message on ebay to politely call them an opportunistic shitbag.

From ebay
Tickets to free events
Members are not allowed to sell tickets to events where all tickets are free to the public.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/event-tickets.html
Hope they take this down.
That's great...
How do you go about pointing that out with their worthless list of potential policy violations that’s on the dropdowns in their reporting page?

I first selected...
Prohibited and restricted items
Second box – Other prohibited or restricted items
Third box – Event ticket resales
Then ebay says they will research.
I selected
Offensive materials
And at 11:40AM it’s up to $98,100
If they ever tell my story let them say that I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Bradley, tamer of offenses. Let them say I lived in the time of Paterno.
If enough of us contact ebay
maybe they will take all of these sales down.

I was so lucky and blessed to get tickets
and I would not sell them for any amount of money. Joe was such a part of my life a that I wanted nothing more then to go to this service! I am sure ebay will take care of the problem.

We knew this would happen with such high demand and free tickets
The tickets “sold out” online within about 4 minutes or so, according to my own observation. Possibly less. The ones available by phone were probably gone within a few minutes as well.
While Beaver Stadium seems like a wonderful place to hold a memorial, the weather kind of kills this option (think old people, kids, etc.) We should be happy that the family has decided to include us, their extended family, to join in in remembering Joe. Not to mention that it at least will be broadcast online and on TV.

I wish that they would have satillite sites at Rec Hall, Eisenhower Auditorium, and branch campuses, etc.. Even though it would not be the same as being there, it would be good to experience surrounded by other Penn Staters.

I’ve been calling around trying to convince Penn State, the NLI and Penn Stater Hotel to open over-flow rooms with projectors carrying it so that people can still gather together to watch. I’d encourage you all the call and make the same request (politely). It’s better than watching it at home alone.

People that do this shit need to never be allowed to buy tickets again.
For 2 years, I was unable to purchase season tickets for the student section because they sold out so quickly (I believe it was 2006 & 2007). Instead, I had to buy each ticket individually from people reselling their tickets. I never missed a home game my entire time at PSU, but it cost me much more than I care to admit.
My girlfriend was in a summer class the one day the student tickets went on sale, and there were people in her class looking to sell the entire season’s worth for $2k. They at no point had any intention of going, only the intention of reselling them for a sizable profit.

Live coverage of "A Memorial for Joe" will begin at 2 p.m. on BTN, BTN.com and BTN2go.

Memorial will begin at 2:25
but the BTN needed 25 minutes to set the stage with a summary of the past three months. You know, because that’s the only stuff that mattered in an 61 year coaching career.

Any hopes of it being picked up by any other networks?
I don’t really think there are any that I can truly support, although ESPN has been surprisingly fair lately. I just absolutely detest the BTN after their “tribute”. I still haven’t received a response from any of the emails I’ve sent either.

93.7 The Fan is doing a piece on "What's wrong with sports"
And they started by citing teh death threats against the 49er who muffed the two punts. However, the geniuses that they are, they just made a comment about the price of the memorial tickets on ebay and what people are “willing to pay” for a memorial service as another example of what’s wrong with sports.
Another set went up
and were down in about 5 minutes.

Random Question about Memorial
I was fortunate enough to get tix to Thursday’s memorial – What should i wear? Was thinking slacks and a jacket? Anyone else going? What are you wearing?
Plans sound fine. Just try to manage with the least outside gear depending on wather.
Those seats don’t give you much room & you want something not fancy if have to tuck coat on the floor under the seat. Could be a long hike from parking, too, if driving there.
Always better to overdress than
look like a scrub. I would go suit but slacks and jacket close enough.

if Joe could wear one on the sidelines, the least we can do is wear one to say goodbye.

Announcement from PSU
Said no camera, video cameras or signs will be allowed into the BJC Thursday.

I appreciate the notion
But with camera phones existing, it’s impractical to actually ban cameras nowadays. I’m imagining a scene like the Sistene Chapel, where 40% of tourists are busy trying to take sneaky photos without being caught by the security people.

was in a former Republican Guard palace that had some pretty decent murals on the ceilings in some rooms. Troops would wander in once in a while — just a quick R&R before the next field deployment. They would say, “Are we allowed to take pictures?” I would answer, "Security says “No.” but they are only carrying pistols; just keep your M-4’s in plain sight. You have them outgunned."
Same thing here: 13,000 attendees vs. a few petty bureaucrats. If a guard gives you a rough time, ask him/her, “Where were you in 2002? Why didn’t you prevent this shitstorm?”

Might confiscate - we got checked for water bottles at Lady Lions game on Sun.
Kind of funny, they asked about bag I was carrying (had no water bottle) but my friend had one in her coat pocket and no one asked her.
But seriously, we should be respectful. Those rinky dink flashes are ridiculous.
How about as a fundraiser?
I think most of us would have been fine if the Paterno’s or even PSU auctioned off a limited number of tickets benefiting THON or Special Olympics.
