The Paterno Way
Preface: I know that 2/3 of this discussion has already happened, but I would like some poll numbers from people on here.
One idea that has been gaining traction in recent days, both here on BSD as well as on other websites, is the idea of renaming a street after Joe Paterno. While I am wholeheartedly for the idea of renaming a street "The Paterno Way", there seems to be some discourse as to which street should be given the honor. Ideas proposed have been:
Curtin Rd. between University and Porter
Curtin Rd. in its entirety
University Drive
Park Ave
College Ave
Since I would like to move forward with creating a petition separate from 93.7's (I want it to include the "the"), I would like to get some feedback from everyone here on BSD as to which street you think would be the best one to rename. I have excluded College Ave since it is a state route along its entire length, and trying to get the state to approve anything is like getting Craig James to admit he killed five hookers while at TCU. I also didn't include the partial renaming of Curtin Rd, because it's confusing to only rename part of a street, and an overlay name (like Avenue of the Arts for Broad Street in Philly) just sucks. If for any reason you hate the entire concept, feel free to check "none".

I've gone back and forth so much on this since I posted the Fanpost the other day
I think renaming Curtin between University and Porter is cheap now. Joe wasn’t just a football coach, so it makes no sense for his street to be only by the football stadium. Gotta go with Curtin from Atherton to Porter now, since everyone uses it, it connects the whole campus, and most importantly, runs by all of the physical contributions he’s made to the school (library, faith center, stadium).

Been thinking
I think Porter is better to be renamed. Since Curtin is named after someone already, and Joe woul dhave been real pissed if it was changed. Porter is where the statue is of Joe, also when the blue busses are bringing the team to the stadium, they use Porter, so then if renamed we can say that the players have to take The Paterno Way to get to the stadium.

Is Porter a general name?
I thought it was named after someone also since I recall a building somewhere on campus named “Porter” also. Might just be a coincidence.
But either way, I voted Park and let’s rename the entirety of it. It touches the whole length of campus and is a major link from the highways to campus, it would feel right exiting off of 322 or 99 at The Paterno Way exit on game day.

Yes, Porter is named after a person.
This person if I’m not much mistaken.

In fact, look through...
this list and take note that all of East and Pollock halls, as well as several other State College landmarks are represented.

I'll be very upset
If my grandchildren get assigned to live in Corbett Hall.

Something tells me...
the best Corbett is ever going to have named after him at Penn State is a sewage treatment plant.

You're not being fair to the sewage treatment plant.
And speaking of that pig Corbett, when it’s time for his reelection in 2014, I GUARANTEE I will be on this blog repeatedly leading up to the election saying “Remember that boy in the shower. Remember that boy in the shower.”
I'm not waiting for 2014
Impeachment NOW is what is necessary. He obviously knew about Sandusky and had a moral obligation to do more, yet did nothing. In addition, statements he issued challenged the authority of Penn State’s trustees — telling them what he thought they should do and how they should act. Lastly there is a grave concern that he is not able to properly represent the commmonwealth of Pennsylvania if allowed to stay on as governor.

Craig James killed 5 hookers at TCU too?
On top of the 5 he killed at SMU?

Well, he's running for Senate,
don’t you remember his campaign promise?
…And as for higher education, I promise that every university in this great state will receive five hookers, killed by my own hand!
Craig James, for a better, hooker free, America.
Park Ave would have been Joes route home
and is not named after anybody. I like the fact that Cutin runs through campus but it is named after a important person in the schools history already and I agree, Joe would not like that,
Exactly my rationale.

Here's a thought about the Curtin Road thing
why not just name a building after him? Curtin that is. That way he’s still honored, but you can rename the road. I mean, as long as its cool with the family (assuming there still is Curtin family around) I dont see why it would be a big deal.
I'm on the Internet cause I'm an Internet thug.

After the way Joe was mistreated by the university and the state,
they should be willing to do whatever is necessary to rename Curtin Road The Paterno Way. Additionally, they can rename Park Avenue Curtin Road. That is going to require some work, but Joe earned as much.
I firmly believe Curtin Road in its entirety should be renamed the Paterno Way. It runs right through the heart of the campus, just like Penn State ran right through Joe’s heart. It ties together all the major themes of his life; academics, athletics, and spirituality. To me, it is the most fitting tribute to him.
And if this filthy, rotten, no fucking good BoT has any sense of decency, they’ll get to it immediately.

What I said below...
And I think it’s going to be College Avenue, but that’s just me. That’s what Bear Bryant got, that’s what Joe Paterno should get.

The original Beaver Stadium was located behind the Osmond Building.
Could The Paterno Way start there on the walking path, go up past the library and then include Curtin all the way to Beaver Stadium? Curtin Road could remain from College Ave. to the stop sign in front of Rec Hall. From Rec Hall on would be The Paterno Way.

Renaming a street "The Paterno Way"
Doesn’t this seem kind of gimmicky for Joe Paterno? Does anybody honestly think Paterno himself would have liked this? Name a street after him, but avenue will be just fine.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
Would Joe have liked
Anything over the past few days, especially the memorial service for him?

No.
But those things are memories. A gimmicky street name is part of his legacy. He’d hate that. I hate it on his behalf.
...may we compete with fierce intensity, with the gifts that we have been given...
I am getting to the point
Where everything needs to be named after him. It doesn’t, I think it is more telling and more appropriate that the only thing on campus named after Paterno, is the library. That speaks more about the man than anything.
