From the column: "At day's end, Penn State doesn't have to please anybody but Penn State and those connected to the university and program. Looking beyond that sphere would be a mistake. Hiring a peripheral figure from the outside by way of eradicating the previous culture would draw momentary kudos from America's watchdogs. Then, under somebody like Mangini, Penn State football would stagnate or collapse. Tom Bradley simply will not allow that to happen."
