Well, if that's the case, then January 4th looks like it's going to be a real tub of shit.
Run.

The multitude of e-mail in my inbox this morning would support this theory
Plus, Schiano would be a real let-down after this long of a wait.
"Every time you go to that cook-off you get drunk as a poet on payday!"
Anybody other than Stoops/Saban/Peterson
will be a real let-down after this long of a wait. Seriously, I never expected Stoops or Saban but there is no reason to not have a coach by now if they aren’t of that caliber.
I, for one, plan to continue my life long contempt for the powers that be and I fully expect to be disappointed with whatever choice is made. ~PSUgirl
Petersen just signed a contract extension
We all know that these mean nothing, except when you sign one as you are – reportedly – being courted. He’s off the board.
"WHY IS EVERYONE THE FREAKING STUPID?" BMAN13
Yeah, I'm with you, sorting through the three tons of e-mail that I currently have.
Although, I think it would have still been a real let-down even if Schiano was hired on November 9th.
Run.
I can't stop laughing at this comment.

This actually would be a best case scenario if they struck out with Petersen*
*with the caveat that Scrap is the absolute best coach available for PSU, but unfortunatley “can’t” be the next coach for no fault of his own
NE recruiting ties, “man of integrity” reputation, PSU ties. Rutgers wasn’t exactly Temple in terms of being a smoldering crater of a program, but it was really, really bad when he took over. They’re very much average now, which is a huge step up for that program.
Personal opinion; Stop kidding yourselves with Saban/Miles. Petersen would be excellent but Boise isn’t going to go down without a fight (see the raise they just agreed to), and he’s a west coast boy.
The next head football coach at PSU is going to be a placeholder for 5 years until the scandal clears. 3 months ago that wasn’t the reality, but it is now. Schiano will graduate players and keep our noses clean, and probably net us 9 wins a year barring NCAA complications. So basically….hit repeat on 2011 for the next 5 years.
It could be a heck of a lot worse, guys.

2011 on repeat
I think 9 wins a year without an unprecedented scandal would be a lot more palatable than “2011 on repeat.” More like 2007 on repeat. I’m not some kind of defeatist who loves and embraces mediocrity, but if 8-9 wins a year with a bowl win was our floor with a “placeholder” coach I’d be pretty happy. Even Schiano got Rutgers an 11-1 regular season. If he got PSU one 11-1 season over five years I think there’d be a decent number of people backing him for a contract extension.
I’m just worried that Schiano’s floor as PSU coach could be 4 wins a season.
I’m not wild about Schiano, but could accept him based on the things mentioned above. The main concern I have is he was on staff working for Sandusky during the time the charges were occurring. I worry that he’d get nothing but questions on what he knew and be dogged about it. The new coach needs to be able to deflect questions about IT and work on football. Not sure that’s possible with Schiano.
Also, regarding the "why wait until now to hire a coach of this caliber" argument
You wait until now because you tried to get several bigger names, and they all said no or were just using you for leverage to get raises at their current jobs.
I’m personally not going to be that pissed at Joyner and Lubert if that’s the case. Step outside our blue and white tinted glass cages, and we’ll see that this job sucks as of this moment. 5 years from now it goes back to being the destination dream job for the A-Listers that it was just 3 months ago.

After 50 years of perusing the American media...
and after reading reports of many events through the years in which I have witnessed false reporting on things of which I have intimate knowledge, I now consider even one fact in error as an immediate disqualification of the entire article. I realize this is pedantic and irresponsible and in no way fair or a path to accuracy, but, the reporter has already proven he phoned at least part of this article in:
“According to public flight records available on FlightAware.com, on Dec. 27 one of Penn State’s private jets flew to the Morristown Municipal Airport in central New Jersey.”
Penn State does not own any jets. Penn State owns two turboprops, specifically Super King Airs, and one Stationair. Idiots.

buncha no good assholes is what they are
how they dont know the difference between turboprops and jets is beyond me.

Had they done further diggin (or any digging)
They would have discovered that Teterboro was experiencing delays that particular day and MMU is an alternate to TEB. Also, this was reported here on or about 12/27.
Odd, since Mike's been reporting on the U
for 30+ years and knows better. I’m sure he’s heard Joe’s famous “we don’t own jets” dressing-down of uninformed reporters.

I wasn't big on Schiano back when we were discussing names like Peterson, Richt, Bradley, and Munchak
Now that the names popping up are NFL assistants/position coaches that I never heard of, I’d actually be pretty happy with Schiano. Someone with HC experience, PSU and regional ties, and a not really all that bad track record is a safer bet to me than the OC from San Francisco. The NFL guys could work out, but they seem like a bigger risk to me.
That which we are, WE ARE...PENN STATE.
Forever.
Think we can get one of those page-a-day calanders?
A different coach for each day. Jim Caldwell is undoubtedly the guy for Friday the 13th.

Six weeks to hire Greg Schiano?
In that case, think how long it would take if they tried to hire somebody good.
It's not that they haven't tried to find somebody good....
but more likely they did try, and struck out because no one with better options wants to come here right now.
I actually applaud them for not panicking and making this sort of hire weeks ago, once every tier 1 told them “no” once. At least it appears we’re making sure every tier 1 is a definite no. It does show that we’re all thinking with our blue and white caps on when we say that PSU is a destination job as of this moment. We’re kind of like property on the gulf coast right after BP fucked it up…a few months ago we’re prime real estate, but right now we’re a gorgeous house with oil all over the beach. Give it a few years and the buyers will be back.
*caveat continued regarding Scrap. Best coach, can’t happen thanks to jerry fucking sandusky.

I don't disagree with you,
and my comment was mostly for the snark effect, but it would really take some doing for me to get on board with Schiano.
FWIW, I think the oil on our beach is the fact that we have an interim AD, a hat full of jackasses on the BoT, and a new president who doesn’t exactly inspired confidence on the football issue. I wouldn’t want to work for them, either.
Poll for tomorrow
The next rumored HC for PSU will be:
A. Jim Grobe
B. Jim Harbaugh
C. Jim McMahon
D. Al Golden, again
E. Jesse.
F. Jesse “the Body” Ventura
G. IT WAS MIKE LONDON THE WHOLE TIME!
H. Penn State shouldn’t have a coach, ya know, FOR THE VICTIMS

Either the reporting is comical
or the search itself is comical. Or maybe both.
I pray that Joyner and Lubert know what they are doing.
Based on all available evidence
I would conclude both the reporting and the search are jokes. We will probably never actually know what went on, who was really candidate, who was interested, who said no etc. I am not concerned that it is taking awhile at all, though I think this is getting to be about the time where I think they need to name someone.
Can I ask..
Why Schiano would be a let down?
I think he would be great here.
