PSU has booked one of the hottest rappers to headline their Hoops Madness event on October 25th.
For the second year in a row, PSU will host Hoops Madness in Rec Hall as a celebration of the start of basketball season. While last year's first-ever event was a success, this year's surely will be better. One of the hottest names in the rap industry, Big Sean, will be the headliner.
For those who do not indulge in today's hip hop scene, Big Sean is currently featured in three of this week's Billboard's top 25 songs. In the past month, he dropped his acclaimed mixtape 'Detroit' and has a solid presence on Kanye West's G.O.O.D. music collaboration album 'Cruel Summer', the current #1 hip-hop album. I honestly can't think of a hotter rapper out right now. PSU could not have landed a better performer who would've realistically been interested in this kind of gig.
Hoops Madness is open to the public with the festivities beginning at 7:30pm. The doors open at 6:30, while student season ticket holders will be let in at 6:15. The first 300 fans will receive a free Hoops Madness t-shirt. It seems to follow a similar format to last year's edition with games, giveaways, and team dance performances before the music begins. PSU's Mike Wallace is also performing as the show's opener.
Chalk this up as another outstanding effort by Coach Chambers and his marketing staff to forge a stronger relationship with the students. The buzz on twitter is already growing, and it will definitely be a hit on campus. It might not pay off right away in student attendance this winter, but identifying the program at one of the hottest concerts this school year surely will help the program's popularity around town.
