The Tale
Our second commit in a row that decommitted to Maryland before switching to Penn State, Anderson is the son of former Penn State fullback Richie Anderson (different outlets spell junior's name Richie or Richy), who also spent fourteen years in the NFL. You can find the original Maryland commitment piece on Anderson over at SBN's Testudo Times, here.
Anderson the commit had committed to Maryland in June, then received his offer from Penn State in August. He was up in State College for the weekend, hosted by freshman running back Akeel Lynch. As soon as he received the offer from the Nittany Lions, Anderson reportedly begun wavering in his commitment and excited to be looked at by the blue and white.
To the surprise of no one, Larry Johnson was Anderson's lead recruiter.
Outlook
Anderson is primarily used currently as a tailback, but looks to project as a sort of all-purpose back in college, similar to how the program uses Bill Belton.
Anderson is the fourth offensive player in this 2013 class, and looks to fill a position of future need for the Nittany Lions. A bit on the small side, he will likely take a redshirt year his freshman year to bulk up under Coach Fitz before becoming more of an impact player in 2014.
Welcome to Penn State, Richy!
