We've all been there either in the stands or watching at sports bar. When the other team (it's always them, never us) does something that looks like a hold or PI and the guy from 50 feet over starts to scream obscenities at the top of their lungs. I don't want to be that guy that everybody looks at wondering why he won't learn the rules.
Can someone with college refereeing experience or knowledge of the rules please explain to us what constitutes a foul in the following situations:
Holding by the offense and the defense (can you grab a jersey and if so, when)
What is pass interference and what is just 2 guys fighting for the ball (when would it be defensive holding instead of PI)
Any other rules that we fans are misinformed about? I recall the NFL having a commercial from ALCOA where they explained the rules to you, and one campaign in college basketball, but it would be appreciated if just 30 seconds of a telecast was spent to actually educate.
