BSD Prediction Roundtable: Indiana

Pat Lovell-US PRESSWIRE

Penn State has never lost to Indiana. The BSD crew seems to think that trend will continue.

bscaff: Who gives a shit about Indiana football? I'm being serious here. If Hoosiers don't care about their own team - and believe me, they don't - then what's my motivation to scout another 4-win B1G team with zero fans and negative tradition? Even paid writers at Sports Illustrated or Yahoo! don't care. And they're paid to do it.

Oh, alright. IU has a nice freshman left tackle. JoePa would love him because he's under 300lbs. They have an RB with speed. And Coach Kevin Wilson trawled the JuCos and landed a nice wideout and a couple of defenders in the front seven. Thanks to Tim Beckman, the Hoosiers are no longer the worst team in the Big Ten. Unfortunately, they ARE still Indiana, where no one wants to play, even if they were the last unsanctioned team in the conference.

Jared: Indiana is heading into a bad situation, as Penn State has been dealing with a lot of anger and will finally have someone to take it out on this Saturday. Kevin Wilson has done an admirable job by starting a rebuilding process with a perennial floormat as the Hoosiers are showing signs of turning things around. The offense has been able to put up big numbers, and QB Cameron Coffman has often been exceptional. The defense is still lackluster, but Indiana has an excellent pass rush that could cause problems for McGloin. But Penn State is an extremely resilient team. Instead of losing focus after a tough loss, they will instead tee off on the Hoosiers. Zach Zwinak will once again set a career-best for rushing yards in a game, Zordich will score a touchdown, and Amos and Mauti each get an interception.

Penn State 48-17*

*Technically, Indiana will only score 10 points. However, while the game is still in question the referee will make an announcement to reset the game plan and also to add 7 points for Indiana on the scoreboard. A stunned silence will fall over Beaver Stadium before shifting into loud booing. A local talking head will write a column from the press box on how the boos of the fans should result in the permanent disbanding of the Penn State football program. No explanation will ever be given by the Big Ten.

Tim: As I said a couple of weeks ago coming off the Ohio State loss, this team has done a good job forgetting about the past week and focusing on this week's opponent. We didn't see any signs of a hangover against UVA (kicking notwithstanding), Navy, or Purdue. I see no reason to believe, especially in the penultimate game for the seniors in this program, that they will break the trend. To Indiana's credit, they are well-improved from a year ago, but they still have a ways to go in order to compete with the 'top dogs' of the Leaders Division. Their defense outside of a couple of pass rushers, is rather porous and offensively, they rely way too much on slinging the ball around instead of establishing a staunch rushing attack. Look for PSU to pound away with Zwinak early and often, opening up the passing game for McGloin and Co. The defensive front seven should also make life miserable for IU QB Cam Coffman and contain their tailback Stephen Houston.

Penn State 38-17

Nick: This is the best Indiana football has looked in years, it won't be enough. The Hoosiers just happen to be on the schedule following a robbery and they'll take they'll the punishment.

Penn State 38-17

Dan: While we've always beaten Indiana, it seems to have not been easy, especially in recent memory. I still have flashbacks to James Hardy doing whatever he wanted to Justin King in Bloomington a few years ago.

I think that this game will also be closer than what most are thinking, but I expect another Penn State win to guarantee a winning season in year one of the sanctions.

Penn State 35-24
