So Sunday bloody Sunday has come and gone and this year Penn State isn't front and center. Kind of feels nice 'eh? Instead, Bloody Sunday created 13 FBS openings. So given some of those schools compete for some of the same recruits as Penn State, a closer look into the recruits for 2013 seemed warranted.



Given that coaching changes, as we know all too well now, create instability in programs perhaps these recent coach openings will present some opportunities to add some critical needs to the 2013 class. Which brings me to the first question, what positions are we missing from the 2013 class that we’d like to see filled? I’m no authority in the matter, but we currently have commits at; DE/DT, DE, DE, S, CB, CB, MLB on defense and; RB, OG, OG, OG, TE, QB on offense. So without being able to crawl into the coaches’ heads it looks like we could use some ATH types at the offense skill positions or even on the defensive side for that matter, but this is really Junny’s skill set not mine. Instead, I looked at 8 of the 13 schools with head coach openings to find which of these schools held commitments with offers from Penn State. The schools researched included; Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, California, NC State, Purdue, Kentucky, and Boston College. I expected to find several Penn State Offers through an aggregate of these schools. Well, according to ESPN, there was 1. One current commit to these schools which holds an offer from Penn State. Some of us may remember him, Paul Harris (WR Tennessee commit). For a while there we thought we had a shot at him. One, that’s it out of 123 commits from those 8 schools. Needless to say that was unexpected. I’m really not expecting to see any flip flopping by recruits to play for the good guys with those kinds of statistics, but I am curious what our coaching staff’s approach is. I mean I did see every other major college football label numerous times and I expected to see at least 1 from BC and 1 from Auburn (I’m looking at you Teddy Roof). In any event, hey, we’re talking football!!!
