I highly enjoy them, and comment more to that than anything else, especially when they occur in threads that are rehashing old arguments about IT.

I'm a fan of them

Especially within the last few days.

Side note, nothing is better than a solid whiskey discussion. I’ve learned a tremendous amount from my friends on BSD about whiskeys, and received some fantastic suggestions.

Some can get really interesting

My favorite so far was the Breakfast meat discussing, I inadvertantly started last week. That was some good times to be had.

Not a fan of whiskey, vodka guy, and there really isn’t much you can say about vodka. I guess you can argue which is the best, or what drinks are the best made with vodka.

Anytime now that I see a thread going a couple hundred comments, usually it is about IT and I really don’t go there, unless I see a thread jack and then will whole heartedly participate. And obvioulsy throw in a few bunnies when needed.

Vodka is great

because it’s a perfect canvas to make any flavored liquor you want.

by dbl5030 on Feb 16, 2012 7:02 PM EST up reply actions

That

And it is delicious.

But it really is the perfect type of liquor to mix alot of different things with. Especially if someone doesn’t like a strong liquor taste, a few vodka drinks will get the job done easily, and you might never taste the vodka (if made correctly)

Even cheap, crappy vodka is useful

I only use the cheapest, dirtiest vodka I can when I make vodka sauce. The point is to add flavor, which the good stuff doesn’t have because it’s filtered so well.

I’m also a big bloody mary guy. The Absolut Peppar stuff is fantastic for them.

by dbl5030 on Feb 16, 2012 7:11 PM EST up reply actions

A good cheap Vodka is a good find

I am a Stoli guy myself. usualy order Vodka tonic when at a bar, since many don’t know how to properly make other drinks I like, especially the double 07 drink.

I have fallen in love with the Sweat Tea vodka, mix that with lemonade, and get a John Daly (Drunken Arnold Palmer) it is highly refreshing and very tasty,

but I don’t like tonic, so what’s something else that is low or no calorie that I can get at a bar? At home I’ve been using Crystal Light!

Also, since you are in the south you likely have a Sonic handy. Vodka blends wonderfully with that outstanding diet limeaide they now sell.

Bloody Marys are fantastic

The only time I switch from bloody marys are in the fall when there is fresh apple cider. A handle of Captain Morgan mixed with a gallon of apple cider and a little bit of cinnamon heated slightly is the perfect october tailgate starter. It is a dangerous concoction, but well worth it

Tequila with lime, Orange with Madarin, etc. Most of them were delicious except for the Tequila ones. Tequila and I don’t get along so, as you said, everytime I opened the cooler I wanted to hurl. Not very fun. Especially when my friends harassed me until I took one of the Tequila ones. Great friends.

Best thing to do with cheap, crappy vodka

is make your own pepper vodka .. cut up your peppers of choice, i use a mix of jalapeno, scotch bonnet and thai chilies and put em in the bottle for about a week.. drain/strain and voila pepper vodka that’ll blow away anything you can buy… works with lemon too (just use like the zest of 3-4 lemons)

by mbailey71 on Feb 20, 2012 8:31 PM EST up reply actions

There are a few things like this you can do

One is to get a full bunch of lemons and sugar, sut the lemons in half, add about 2 cups of sugar to a full bottle of vodak, and let it sit until the sugar completely dissolves…and you have some good drinking, very potent.

Can also take jolly ranchers and drop them in a bottle of vodka, wait util they all dissolve, and same effect.

Those men are asshats indeed.

In related news, I’m fulling planning on doing another gymnastics primer leading into the championships this season.

I’ve got to be one of fifteen people on this planet who gets excited for both ice hockey and gymnastics…

One of my favorites as well. I was going to write up something to talk about our men’s V-Ball season so far, seems they are playing at a very high level right now, and good things hopfully will come of it.

I'm getting to a new point in my PSU gymnastics fandom

A few weeks ago, they showed pictures of the new leotards for the ladies, and I actually got excited. There was definitely a, “Wow. This is what it’s come to,” moment of reflection after that.

I used to think the same thing about Brady Quinn, too.

But then he went and did this – http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20536012,00.html. In short, he gave up his back-up QB role on the Broncos to fly out to Japan to be with Alicia when she had to get surgery on her achilles tendon. Even I have to admit – that’s pretty freaking romantic.

(It also opened the door for Tebow-mania, but lets be fair – that was inevitable.)

It's because you're abstaining too often these days

You passed on prime opportunities to slay ramzy & cook and you all invited kleph in for a ‘hey pal come be friends and kick us in the nuts.’

Still, you look like you might be headed for a win (or at least another match) if Ben Jones keeps up the recruiting pursuits at statecollege.com.

I have been critical of people on this blog before (though not for a long while)

But Christ, if I had to read blogs with guys like Ramzy or Cook writing on them, I’d kill everything that ever lived. Lawdhamercy, those guys stand out as smug pricks, even against a background littered with some of the smugger pricks one could ever encounter. It’s pretty remarkable, actually.

Alright, time to explain the internet to me

Difference between visits and page views?
Also, are these 8.9 visits since BSD started way back whenever?

She asked me who I wanted to have a three some with. I said "Why not Zoidberg?"

by ICEICETHATGUY13 on Feb 16, 2012 8:12 PM EST reply actions

Crudely.

Visits = Number of people
PV’s = Number of pages viewed by all those people

For BSD, the PV to Visits ratio generally seems to be a slight bit over 2:1 each month:

http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=s26blackshoediaries&r=33

And yes, the totals in the post are since the very beginning.

by Chris Grovich on Feb 16, 2012 8:19 PM EST up reply actions

A visit is you coming here. A pageview is the number of pages...you view.

Think of it like visiting a house. The visit is you getting there, the pageview is the number of rooms you see.

And I’m sure those numbers are from the beginning, though I’m not exactly sure when that officially was (actual BSD vs. SBN BSD).

by Jeff Junstrom on Feb 16, 2012 8:20 PM EST up reply actions

Weirdly enough...

Sitemeter has lower numbers for the history of the site (though that could be due to Sitemeter being installed after SBN BSD was up and running many years ago…I don’t know):

VISITS

Total 8,721,196
Average Per Day 11,164
Average Visit Length 3:29
Last Hour 652
Today 10,945
This Week 78,149

PAGE VIEWS

Total 19,716,223
Average Per Day 24,556
Average Per Visit 2.2
Last Hour 1,499
Today 23,180

Gotta tell my peeps about last night's insane dream.

was on the golf course with RUTS, TS, and some other old friends.

The group in front of us was very slow and we were getting pissed…the group behind us kept hitting balls landing in our area so we would throw them in the water or back at them.

Here is the good part…we confront the group and I get in fight with Jim Cantafio…I am screaming “do you have any pride”…I woke up and every muscle in my body is tense…can’t fall back asleep.

Nothing to do with this thread but had to share.

By SBN metrics, at least

I believe we’ve jumped to No. 2 in college blog viewing numbers. I forget who No. 1 is, but BON, EDSBS, RBR and Testudo Times used to be up there (and probably still are).
