DE Shawn Oakman Dismissed For Unspecified Reasons

"Violation of Team Rules."

How many times do we hear that in college sports? Too often, apparently. Penn State's SID Jeff Nelson tweeted yesterday that redshirt freshman defensive end Shawn Oakman was off the team for violation of unspecified team rules.

While it's not an "OMG" type loss, it does hurt the depth of a unit that prides itself on rotating players during games. Oakman was likely a third-stringer this season. But as I said, that doesn't mean he wasn't going to see meaningful snaps against meaningful opponents.

More on this will hopefully come out soon. Oakman, a 6-7, 260-pound two-time All-Delco from Penn Wood, came to Penn State as a highly-touted recruit in last year's so-so class. He redshirted last season, and will have four years of eligibility remaining should he transfer to a lower-division program.
