OT Friday: Celebrity Life
If you're anything like me, you want to throw your television out the window anytime anything that has to with the Kardashians, or The Real Housewives of McKees Rocks, or some other trashy program comes across the screen. Don't even get me started on 16 and Pregnant and Looking for a Reality Show Contract. That show sucks.
That being said, there are certain celebrities I don't mind hearing about, as I'm genuinely interested in what they do. And not from a professional standpoint, per se. I mean, sure, I want to know what the next movie that Daniel Day-Lewis will star in, but I'm similarly intrigued by what he does in real life. Does he enjoy a nice Maker's Mark on the rocks after work, too? What does his Pandora station list look like?
Other names that, if they starred in some show about their actual lives, I'd tune into, include: Tina Fey (Philadelphia born, funniest all-around woman on TV), Jon Bon Jovi (made it out of the hair band era alive, probably has some stories), Blake Griffin (the face of the NBA youth, that commercial with the deer kills me every time), and Reese Witherspoon (I want to put her in my pocket and carry her around, she's so cute), among others.

For me...
Timothy Olyphant, Bubba Watson (Seems like a fun guy), and Claire Danes – she just seems interesting.

Bubba Watson. Nice.
Keeping with that theme – Rory, Ricky Fowler, and JD (because…come on).

I want a ride...
from Bubba in the General Lee.
Hanging out with JD would not end well.

For an internship in college, I worked at a resort golf course where JD played the first round when it opened
Afterwards, he had parked his RV in the golf course parking lot, got piss drunk, and pulled the release on the refuse tank, spilling shit all over the parking lot. The next morning he blamed it on one of his kids, but his assistant or something told the pro at the course that it was actually JD. Classic.
"Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things."
A good friend of mine worked at a course one year.
They hosted some event that JD was at, and they asked my friend to pick up the supplies JD asked for. The supplies? A 30 pack of Bud Heavy. I miss old JD.

Tell me you watched "I'm With Busey"
The story about snorting coke off his dog was intense.

Soon after my
buddy Jesse got his drivers license he somehow got schnookered into delivering the neighboring Amish family’s kids to Green Dragon (swapmeet in Ephrata for those not familiar) to sell rabbit cages or something they built (his mom got free stabling for her horse in return).
When we met up with the kids for the ride home we found that the oldest had purchased a used copy of a Boxcar Willie tape that he listened to on a walkman he kept hidden in his jacket. It was the awesome.

Agree on celebrity faux celebrity worship
don’t get it, don’t care. I couldn’t even tell you what channel MTV is on DirecTv (somewhere in the 300s).
Accordingly, there are probably very few celebs whose lives I would watch a show about. Off the top of my head: Bryan Cranston, Michael Ian Black (funniest Twitter follow), any show that was PSU-centric (such as a Bill O’Brien show, etc). I’d probably also watch a show about Chevy Chase or Steve Martin too.
Finally, it seems Jersey Shore (Pa) is too classy for Snooki
Kristen Chenoweth
I love her, she is so damn cute, and talented.

I think she would actually
fit in your pocket.

I would be completly happy with that

I only care about Snookie.
I’m totally obsessed.

I really only follow athletes.
I’m big on Landry Fields right now because it’s basketball season and he’s hilarious.

George Clooney
Just watched him on Inside the Actor’s Studio. Wow.

About the only celebrities I verge on worshipping
are musicians because (the good ones) have demonstrated talents that I simply cannot reproduce. Plus, I think life on the road is fascinating. So I’d probably watch any number of shows following bands on tour… especially acts that tour all the time or even acts that haven’t really “made it” yet. Plus, I see the music industry as being in real flux (still) thanks to the digital revolution. So, it’d be interesting to see how bands navigate that these days.
Most celebrities I despise because I’m convinced I could do their job as well as they can (especially the new reality stars). Many of them have holier than thou attitudes as if they didn’t simply just get lucky via some twisted combination of looks, meeting/knowing the right people, and/or having the ability to shamelessly act like an asshole.
If I were going to watch a show about any actors, it would have to be about some of the less traditionally beautiful actors in Hollywood who still manage to maintain active careers and receive accolades for their work. They have the interesting stories. They understand they are lucky to have made it. They don’t think the world owes them everything.
Also, because I’m a sports fan, I have to say I think it would be really interesting to see what the daily life of a college football coach really looks like. That said, it might be dreadfully boring TV (and I’m sure they’d never want to show you the best stuff).
Before he died
I would have said Steve Jobs, just because his life and creative process seems like it would be fascinating.
Now, I’d say Manny Pacquio (sp?)(He’s one of the greatest boxers of all time and a member of the Phillipino Congress…I’d be interested in seeing how he juggles the two). I also think seeing the day to day life of Justin Timberlake would be interesting. I know, he’s an ex-boy band guy (which jeopardizes my man card, I know), but the guy is in movies, designs and owns golf courses, is a big philanthropist (especially with St. Jude) and dates Jessica Biel.
