This is the last disappointment I'm willing to accept.
If Penn State doesn’t win the blue & white game I will demand his head!
It is easy to go down into Hell; night and day, the gates of dark Death stand wide; but to climb back again, to retrace one's steps to the upper air - there's the rub, the task.

Damn. This is quite the conundrum.
I refuse to entertain the thought that Penn State will lose the Blue & White game like I refuse to entertain the thought we will lose to Temple. If “Penn State wins” is not immediately prior to “the B&W game” or “the Temple game”, me & BO’B are going to have a problem.

What do condondoms have to do with anything?
Is Jerry back???
In God we trust. Everyone else, keep your hands where I can see them
I would laugh at the same joke if I weren't a Penn State fan
but I’m not a “BOB apologist” or anything and even I’d have to admit that his not spending 100% of his time on recruiting for the 4 weeks since he got the job is like reason #15a for why we lost many of our prior commits. Honestly, if he had come in from day one and worked the trail like no one before, I’d have been shocked if he kept more than 1 or 2 of those guys.
All of the guys committed to the Paterno-led staff. Then the entire university was emboiled in a huge scandal. Then Paterno was fired. Then there were almost 2 months without knowing who the head coach was, while the school’s name continued to be drug through the mud. Then there were vague threats of possible sanctions. Then O’Brien was hired. Then Kenney and Bradley, who had had a hand in recruiting many of those guys, were no longer on staff. Not to mention that somewhere in there, a nearby school with great tradition and facilities suddenly got a top-level head coach and re-opened recruiting.
Then, down the list a little, comes O’Brien’s actual effort at recruiting. I may be skeptical of other things re: O’Brien, but not recruiting 100% is so far down the list that it’s basically insignificant.

Don't forget the Urban Meyer to tO$U factor in this equation.
Might rank slightly higher than 15a.

Yeah I obliquely referred to it
If no scandal had hit at all, Meyer would be coaching Penn State this year. But that aside, in a hypothetical where no scandal hit and Joe retired and handed off to Bradley or someone that wasn’t Meyer, we still might have lost a guy or two to Ohio State.

I think it refers more to the general
angst about BOB not being committed to PSU from Day 1 of his hiring more than people think he could’ve saved the class. He pissed off a lot of people by staying on with the Patriots, and the only redeeming quality about that decision was that he could’ve ended up with a SB ring. The fact that he didn’t means we spent the last few weeks without a head coach for nothing.
I personally didn’t have a problem with it at the time (and still don’t), but it is disappointing that we didn’t net anything from his delayed arrival. But the meme is funny, even if incorrect (BOB said in his introductory press conference, “how can I ask these young men to give me their commitment, when I can’t follow through with my commitment to the Patriots?”).
I think it's funny too...
but I also think we can’t fault people for following through on their commitments.
The only way his staying at the Patriots will ever piss me off is if, upon his departure (hopefully under his terms rather than ours… because that will mean he will have been successful), he doesn’t pay us the same respect and not abandon our guys before a bowl game.
In fact, maybe I’m just naive, but I see his focus on graciously leaving the Patriots as something that is admirable in today’s day and age. I also think most people will remember it with great respect if BOB comes out the next couple of seasons and does pretty well in spite of this class not appearing to be stellar. And, if he manages to succeed for 10 or 20 years and keeps a stellar record of maintaining the moral high ground, it will certainly become something that we point to as the first sign that BOB was really a PSU man all along.
Anyone blaming the ranking of this class on BOB really has a short memory for what happened over the past 3 months. Let the specter of an NCAA investigation disappear. Let the scandal become a little bit less of the lead in this story. Let our guys win a couple of games next year. And then let’s judge BOB and the rest of his crew on who they recruit. More importantly, let’s judge him on how they use and develop the talent they do have.
I don't fault him either
At first I was a little peeved, but then I thought it through and realized it probably would not make much difference, given the other things going on.
I like the BOB I have seen so far.
