Where's the love for Sukay?
The invite list is out for the NFL Combine and seven PSU'ers are on it:
Jack Crawford, D'Anton Lynn, Derek Moye, Chaz Powell, Devon Still, Johnnie Troutman, and Nate Stupar. I was surprised though to not see Nick Sukay (personally I thought he'd be there but others may disagree). I also thought I might see Joe Suhey there even though the NFL isn't huge for FBs. Stefon Green is missing but I suppose I'm not really surprised... Szczerba isn't there, nor is Barham or Okoli. Any other thoughts?

Thought I read somewhere he was projected as an OLB at the next level
I thought he had a really good game (maybe even named D-MVP) of the all-star game he played in late January. The game was the night before Paterno passed away so his accomplishments were lost in the shuffle.
I should have read the entire poll!!!!

As my hero says
“Life moves pretty fast…if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
Or, perhaps more to the point, Miss Snyder, my fifth grade teacher said of my work on a math quiz, “You need to read THE WHOLE question before answering, Robert!” (Somehow she was able to convey the perfect amount of disdain for my overall intelligence in that one sentence, indicating that she believed my future contained work involving more physical demands than mental.)

Did you look for him 10 yards behind a streaking receiver?
Sorry… still a little bitter about some of his coverage performances.

Passing coverage wasn't the best
But he was pretty tought against the run.

So who in this group gets drafted?
I see Devon Still, Derek Moye and Nate Stupar as locks, Still obviously being the highest of the bunch. Probable on Chaz Powell (returning ability) and D’Anton Lynn. Possible on Jack Crawford and Johnnie Troutman, mostly because of their size.
Thoughts?
Still is the only lock.
Moye has a very good chance, but I’m just not sure he’s a lock. Stupar? I see him as a free agent. I think Powell may have a better chance of getting drafted than Stupar. Powell has good size, is a great athlete and will probably put up good numbers at the combine that may knock him into the draft.
Special teams players tend to get looks at the end of a draft
So ST standouts like Stupar and Powell make me think they’ll be drafted late. They’ll definitely be signed somewhere, at least. Moye has the size and has shown potential to be a good receiver, so I think he’ll get picked up late. But maybe I’m just being really optimistic.

I think Crawford will be drafted late
Crawford will impress at the combine, and I think at least one team will see enough in his film to take a flier. I have read some scouts not being very impressed, but it only takes one team to pick a guy. He could be 2nd from PSU or he could be undrafted.
But I’m saying 2nd off the board will be Troutman. I’ve heard good things about him, and he’s always had the physical gifts.
I think Lynn is the 3rd PSU guy to be drafted, mostly because I’ve read NFL Draft ranking websites that have him in the top 40 DBs. He was mostly good, and when a DB goes a while without you noticing him, that usually means he’s a good player. He also looks the part.
Moye is good and I think he could benefit from beefing up a little and putting on a good show at the combine with his size and athleticism. Although if scouts think he can’t get off press coverage, he might be undrafted and have to earn his way up through a scout team spot.
Chaz has the size and speed combo NFL scouts look for…depends if they think he can play up on WR in the pros or not, but I don’t see why a team wouldn’t take a shot on a guy with his ability who has only had 2 years to get down the technique and positioning on D. I haven’t seen him very high on any rankings, but most of the guys who make the rankings don’t know what they’re talking about and regurgitate one experts rankings from the preseason with ups and downs for a handful of players. We’ll see.
Stupar’s got a chance as well. A lot of teams are running a 3-4 in the NFL now, and that might suit his skill set as a OLB. The combine will be huge for him. If he’s slow, he won’t get taken. But with 3-4s being popular and backup LBs commonly being special teams guys, he could latch on.
I think 1 out of Moye, Chaz and Stupar will be drafted, and the other two will be invited to camps and maybe catch on. Crawford could go in the 5th, or he could come in as a UDFA, I have no idea. But I’d bet on Still, Troutman and Lynn having their name called by Goodell at some point.

I'd go still trout chaz
Several signees as well. All mentioned above.

My guess is
that they all will be in camp, by whatever ‘means’ gets them there.
Going back to last year’s draft with Royster, he ended the season strong (once he finally received some regular snaps). I hope those snaps help him in getting more chances in camp this year / crack the 2-deep.
God Bless you JoePa.

from everything I've read
It will be him and Helu. They’ve got it essentially locked down, and most of the hater fans from last season have turned around and realized he’s a Skins back of the future.

Pretty much agree on all accounts
- we should come back to this after the combine and see how that tweeks the guesses.
God Bless you JoePa.

Sukay - nice college player, but...
Too slow for safety and too small for linebacker in the pros.
Sukay
I talked to a Colts scout extensively about him at a MAC game earlier this year (he was scouting Ohio receiver Brazill). He told me that Sukay had good knowledge but was slow. He liked Sukay better than Astorino, but not sure that means much. Kind of like red or green NyQuil they both suck.
Personally, the move the OLB is better, but he just isn’t big enough (both weight and muscle) to pull that off in the NFL.

Slow?
I bet he runs under a 4.6. Sukay is a SS in the NFL. Is 4.6 considered slow for an NFL strong safety any more? Is everyone in the secondary expected to run under a 4.5?
FWIW
I think he’s been gearing up to make a run at the NFL as a OLB. I think that’s where he was playing in the exhibition game he played in last month. I didn’t watch it, but that’s what I read.
It’s tough to say…I think he’s a good football player. Sometimes a guy who doesn’t fit the usual requirements for one position or another is a ‘tweener who gets passed over, and sometimes he ends up being a hybrid “joker” who is undervalued but ends up bringing value. See 4th round pick Aaron Hernandez for an offensive version of a “joker” and Aaron Maybin in the Bills system as a “tweener” (though he’s redeemed himself in a defense more suited to his skillset.

I'm not sure I can see Sukay in the role of an OLB
There are too many times last year that I can remember him being pancaked by bigger backs… remembering in particular the Illinois game last year.
I also think he’s a good football player with a great nose for the ball. I just dont think he’s going to play in the NFL.
