Alex Anzalone Penn State Visit Update

Four-star linebacker Alex Anzalone from Wyomissing (Pa.) was on campus this weekend, an impromptu trip to Penn State after his planned visit to Michigan was cancelled. The Wolverine coaching staff told Anzalone that they were full at the linebacker position, so Anzalone decided to join his family on the short trip to Penn State to drop his brother off at school after spring break.

"It went really well", Anzalone said of the trip. He was greeted in State College by a number of the Nittany Lion coaches, including head coach Bill O'Brien, defensive coordinator Ted Roof, linebackers coach Ron Vanderlinden, defensive backs/special teams coach John Butler, and strength and conditioning man Craig Fitzgerald.

However, despite the number of coaches that met with the talented linebacker, there wasn't too much of a press on Anzalone, who told me he was surprised that they didn't try to push harder.

Instead, the staff showed Anzalone some film. "They broke up film for me to see where I'd be in their system."

The coaches weren't the only ones recruiting Anzalone. Even though he was traveling, Anzalone was still in touch with newly minted commit Adam Breneman, who is pushing hard to get Alex at Penn State. Alex told me that Breneman was already tweeting, texting and calling him. Looks like Breneman is intent on his promise to have a top recruiting class by Signing Day.

So what's next for Anzalone? He'll visit Florida this upcoming weekend, and head back to Ohio State at the end of the month. He also has plans to see Notre Dame, Stanford, USC, and UCLA. Are any of those teams on Anzalone's short list?

"I don't know, I have to see if I like them", Anzalone said, who then added that Penn State was "probably" on the short list. He has now visited Penn State twice in the past month, and plans to be back for a spring practice in April.
