Former Basketball Coach Dick Harter Dies

Former men's basketball head coach Dick Harter died from cancer on March 12 (story). Harter was the coach from 1978-79 through 1982-83. During Harter's tenure, Penn State amassed a 79-61 record. Harter's best season as Penn State's head coach was the 1979-80 campaign. Penn State finished the season with a 18-10 record and a NIT appearance.

The most noteworthy game of the Harter era occurred on December 28, 1981. That day the Nittany Lions took the No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels to overtime, before losing 50-56 (story).
