The Tale
Andrew Nelson, whose first name is actually David, seemingly came out of nowhere recently, but has been getting a lot of Division 1 interest. He was on campus recently, before being scheduled to head to Pittsburgh for a Rivals/VTO Camp at Gateway High School. Unfortunately, Nelson was not able to make that trip due to a minor hamstring injury. As soon as he received his Penn State offer this weekend, he was on commit watch, which obviously didn't take long.
Nelson grew up a Penn State fan, and while he was interested in the other schools that offered him a scholarship, once he received an offer from Penn State, it was simply a matter of time.
Outlook
Nelson will need to grow into his still-young frame, but he has a promising career ahead of him, likely at the tackle position. He is able to get to the next level quickly, but appears to play slightly taller than he should off of the line. He has the body size and quickness to be an effective tackle, someone Coach MacWhorter clearly thinks can keep pass rushers off of Christian Hackenberg's back.
Stay tuned for more from Nelson, but until then...
UPDATE: Apparently the lead recruiter for Nelson was Larry Johnson. Nelson just told me that he met Coach Johnson at a camp last year, and the two have a great relationship. Larry Johnson, doin' work.
Nelson will be at Penn State again next week for the Blue/White game.
Welcome to Penn State, Andrew!
