This post is dedicated to: joefromboalsburg, the duly noted Penn State graduate that I have been married to for 30+ years. In the Scranton, Jessup, PA, area, the Italians make a pepper-y egg & cheese bread at Easter that will knock your socks off.... CRESCIA!!!
In my foodie world, Joe's relatives treat me like an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond: "You'll get the recipe right the next time dear". NOT ANY MORE!
It's pronounced "kray-shah", and, it is not for the faint of heart. It's packed with Locatelli cheese, black pepper and eggs... big eggs. It's an old-world recipe that works... and can be found at jessedotsmom's foodie blog.
PS: This is JFB now, and I can testify that old Italian women do not share their recipes. Period. My aunt Asunta (Suzie) made a fabulous crescia and went to her death bed, refusing to give anyone the recipe.
PPS: This is JDM, and I can testify that old Italian women do not share their recipes. Period. I do. Period.
Is that the Blue Band I hear practicing for the Blue-White Game?
Happy Easter,
Mel.
