This is something that has bothered me for a long time and somehow I've never put into print.
Certain commenters here and at other sites have asserted on numerous occasions that Penn State deserves no blame for the Sandusky scandal because they reported the issue to Second Mile, and Second Mile should have taken care of IT.
I cannot comprehend this logic.
To me, if the founder of an organization is seen, or suspected, to have done something horrible, the organization they themselves founded is the last place I would go if I expected my allegation to be taken seriously. Certainly I would report the issue to them, but I would never only report it to them. The chance that the organization itself would be corrupt is too high. Why on earth would you trust them?
But that's what these people have said should have been done. Report to Second Mile and forget about it. So tell me - why would you trust the organization founded by Sandusky to do something about Sandusky?
