I read this story specifically to challenge my pre-conceived notions of Vicky Triponey. It didn't, mainly because it was one quote from her boss at Wichita State and some obvious ass-kissing by CNN. Basically it praises her for shedding light on the horrific culture that has existed at Penn State for decades (you know, that same culture that was on display, for anyone to see, for decades, and was almost universally praised before November 2011...yeah, that culture). One thing the story doesn't explain is why, if Triponey is so important, the Freeh Report only mentioned her in a footnote? What's that? She wasn't even mentioned by name? Ah, so very, very important.
Also, this made me laugh:
Another person might have felt vindicated, smug or self-righteous when former FBI Director Louis Freeh delivered the scathing report on his eight-month investigation of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal. But Triponey sensed only a deep sadness.
I was going to point out all the ways the article itself contradicts this notion, but that would have involved just copying and pasting the whole thing.
I'm not into conspiracy theories, but this seems A LOT to me like CNN trying to kiss ass...maybe because Triponey herself was the source of the emails read exclusively to CNN? Sort of a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" sort of deal? Just sayin'.
