There have been many people calling for the suspension of football, aka the death penalty. I understand their anger but completely disagree with the argument and not for the reasons you might think. The overall narrative is that these four men covered up for Sandusky because they were trying to protect the image of the football program. I think that is speculative and false. These men weren't trying to protect the image of Penn State, they were trying to protect the image of themselves. No one has even remotely touched on that. I can't speak on Curley and Schultz, but Spanier and Paterno were both known to be image conscious. Should Penn State suffer for the criminal activities of two men possibly motivate by their own ego more so than the image of the institution they worked for, the students they said they championed, and most importantly the abused children they care so little about? This isn't a Penn State issue. This isn't a football issue. This is an individual issue. Punish them, not those they cared so little about.
