So, let me get this straight. The problem at Penn State is that the Football team/Culture got disproportionally too big and began to define the University. The "culture" prohibited top level administrators from doing the morally correct actions required to stop a predator? Right? So, how is the media going to react to this? Well, they are going to produce a cover like this, that on its face, is 100% hypocritical. If you deconstruct the message in this cover it is logically pretty clear what SI is suggesting here. Let me spell it out for you:
We WERE Penn State......This means we no longer are
The image of the football helmet.......This means football is responsible for us not being PSU anymore
So, I guess the point of this post is to crystallize the mass hypocrisyof the Media and really what the NCAA did to us yesterday. I think we should all thank them for helping us de-emphasize football. It's just incredible to me that the narrative has been that Penn State values football too much, but they do nothing but perpetuate it in their own world. I was always taught two wrongs don't make a right.
