A New Generation of Penn State Fans

So I'm a long time reader but this is my first time to post anything. However, in a time where not many good stories are being written about Penn State and Penn State fans I'm hoping this will brighten someone's day.

So I am the proud father of a 3 year old son who's about to turn 4. Last year he really go into watching Penn State football with me and would sit with me on a weekly basis and ask me to teach him about football and he'd root with me. While teaching him about the players and positions he took an instant and almost odd liking to Silas Redd. He became an instant favorite. We got the opportunity to come up to the Blue White game this year with my son and all he wanted was to get an autograph from Silas Redd and get to see him play. When we missed Silas for autographs he broke down in tears. However, going down right behind the bench during the game and taking a picture of Silas sitting on the bench cheered him up and he talked about that for a week. This is all background to what happened just a couple of days ago.

So with Silas's name coming up in transfer rumors last week, I thought it was appropriate to warn my son that Silas may not be on the team this year. My wife and I were sitting with him on his bed before bed time the other night and I informed him that I had some bad news. I proceded to tell him that Silas Redd was considering transfering and he might not be on Penn State's football team this year when we watched them on TV. My son did not say a word but threw the covers over his head and wouldn't come out. It took about 10 minutes of my wife and I trying to figure out what was wrong and to console him before he finally came out to talk to us. He was obviously very sad so I told him if he wanted we could root for Silas's new team if he did leave (That was very hard considering it was USC but for my son I was willing to do it). Then in one of the proudest moments as a father, my son looked up at me with his sad eyes and said, "Daddy, we need to root for Penn State".

So I hope all of the Penn State fans out there are encouraged that there is another generation of Penn State fans coming that are just as loyal as the ones that we currently have.
