In 2009, Penn State successfully recruited Kevin Newsome, the nation's No. 10 quarterback, according to the recruiting site Scout.com. The following year, Penn State brought in Paul Jones (No. 3 nationally) and Rob Bolden (No. 8), an ostensibly successful two-year haul at the position. It appeared that the Lions would be ready to replace all-Big Ten quarterback Daryll Clark quite well.
