They join Ali Krieger in the newly-formed league.
When the newly-formed National Women's Soccer League starts play this upcoming spring, there will be Nittany Lion representation in the organization as seniors Christine Nairn and Maddy Evans were drafted in the league's first-ever college draft on Friday.
Nairn, a finalist for the Hermann Trophy, was taken in the first round by the Seattle Reign with the seventh overall pick. She led Penn State in every major offensive statistical category from her midfielder position, scoring 17 goals while adding 12 assists for a total of 46 points while also being the field general for the Lady Lions team that made it to the College Cup finals before losing to North Carolina.
Evans played midfield as well during her college years, but was selected as a defender by the Boston Breakers in the fourth round of the draft. Evans scored five goals and dished out three assists during the 2012 season.
Joining these two in the NWSL is former Nittany Lion star Ali Krieger who was placed on the Washington Spirit through selection from the women's national team. Krieger started in the backfield for the U.S. team before a knee injury sidelined her for the 2012 Olympics. She has spent the last five years in Germany playing for FFC Frankfurt.
