This is the 42nd Super Bowl to have at least one Penn State player present in the game.
All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman will represent the 49ers and Penn State in New Orleans in 13 days as San Francisco punched its ticket to the Super Bowl yesterday by beating the Atlanta Falcons, 28-24. Adding to the Nittany Lion pride in Super Bowl XLVII will be Nathan Stupar who currently is on the 49ers practice squad.
Bowman, who has established himself as one of the preeminent linebackers in the NFL over the past two years, only had four total tackles in yesterday's NFC Championshp game, but ended up sealing the game for the visitors after knocking down a pass intended for Roddy White on the Falcons' last play of the game. The third year linebacker ranked second in the NFL in tackles this year with 149 while also adding two sacks and an interception.
Stupar was signed to the 49ers practice squad just 13 days ago after serving stints in Oakland and Philadelphia this year. He shared this picture of he and Bowman in the 49ers locker room last night during post-game celebrations.
