Athletic Director Dave Joyner released a statement saying the teams are trying to schedule a future Cavalier trip to Beaver Stadium.
Penn State AD Dave Joyner released a statement this afternoon about the status, or lack thereof, of Penn State's 2013 matchup with the University of Virginia:
The University of Virginia notified Penn State that it would not be playing the Sept. 14, 2013 game scheduled for Beaver Stadium in order to play a home game on that date. We are working with Virginia to re-schedule the game for Beaver Stadium in a future season. We have begun discussions to find an opponent for the Sept. 14 date and expect to make that announcement very soon.
Rumors about Virginia dropping Penn State from the 2013 schedule had been gaining traction over the past month or so. Penn State was rumored to be trying to schedule Rhode Island as a replacement, but discussions broke down, leading the Nittany Lions to reportedly come to an agreement with the University of Central Florida on a home-and-home series which will start this year in Happy Valley.
This morning, the Daily Press reported that Virginia is filling their new schedule slot with a home game against Oregon this year.
