The losses have been frustrating, especially the stinker to Indiana, but I see a silver lining in this cloud. If Penn State had had another 8 - 4 or better year we would be hearing Bill O'Brien's name being bandied about for just about every head coaching position. I haven't heard his name connected to any jobs, but then again only a few are officially open. Additionally, I don't think he's leaving soon. The Grantland article about Hackenberg has me pretty convinced of this.
John Butler is not as bad as many of us seem to think he his. Penn State beats Nebraska handily if the Cornhuskers don't switch quarterbacks. Even with the switch the defense did a good job. The defense got better as the year progressed. I might be jumping the gun here since the Wisconsin game has yet to take place. Give Butler some better athletes and things are bound to improve.
Christian Hackenberg is going to be incredible and could seriously be a first round draft pick. NFL teams are not going to go with the quarterbacks like Kaepernick and Griffin for much longer. Defenses have figured that out. The rules of the game are skewed heavily in favor of offenses like those run by the Broncos and Patriots. Hack will be ready for that offense.
Allen Robinson is amazing. I hope he stays, but I don't think he will. If he's told he's a first round pick, he should go.
Penn State needs some linebackers. That's something I never thought I'd have to type.
Zach Zwinak should get more touches next year. If he can hang on to the ball and stay out of O'Brien's doghouse he could get 1,500 yards easily. Belton would make a good slot receiver like Wes Welker.
Please throw the ball more to Kyle Carter, Jesse James, and Adam Brenaman. Hack will have to if Robinson leaves. They will be the best receivers on the field.
