BSD MVP Week 10 - Bill Belton

Matthew O'Haren-USA TODAY Sports

201 yards and a touchdown. Not too shabby, Billy.

If the first 200 yard game since the halcyon days of Larry Johnson's Heisman Trophy campaign isn't worthy of this week's MVP award, then nothing is.

Junior Bill Belton had the game of his career on Saturday against Illinois. The former wide receiver/Wildcat quarterback gashed the Fighting Illini for 201 yards on 36 carries, both personal bests, and took a 5-yard carry iinto the end zone in the first half for the Nittany Lions' first score of the afternoon. Belton toted the rock with his usual speed and shiftiness, but showed off surprising power this week, shrugging off and stiff-arming tacklers, consistently gaining yards after contact. Belton fumbled late in the game, but his running kept the Nittany Lions offense moving throughout the afternoon. He also had a touchdown called back in overtime for a holding call. All in all, a quality day's work. Congratulations, Bill Belton, you're the BSD Week 10 MVP.

Also considered

Christian Hackenberg -The true freshman wunderkind avoided major mistakes this week, throwing for 240 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Hack wasn't particularly sharp early, but made up for it with a Tom Brady-esque finish. He directed  two "should have been" game winning drives in the last six minutes - one ending on the above-referenced Belton fumble, the second on a dropped touchdown by Brandon Felder. In overtime, Hack threw a perfect strike to tight end Kyle Carter on 3rd down for the game winning score. We should mention once again, the kid is a true freshman. The future's so bright, we have to wear shades.

Allen Robinson - Who else?  11 catches, 165 yards. Another circus catch in the clutch. He's the best Penn State receiver in history. A human highlight reel.
