Today, Fox Sports West interviewed Silas Redd. Unsurprisingly, it is another 'no regrets' article.
Redd is polarizing and I hold a strong negative opinion. I believe Redd ran away from Penn State. I believe he abandoned his teammates in their time of greatest need - albeit with a chance to become another storied USC tailback. Others see his choice as a no-brainer and once-in-a-lifetime chance.
To me, if he has no regrets, he should. Despite the bravado, he has to wonder what might have been. Had he stuck with his teammates, Penn State would have in all probability lost only 1 or 2 games last year. Redd would be a legend at least in PSU history, maybe more. Instead, former 5th stringer Zack Zwinak posted 1000 while Redd tried to figure out LA and fell out of the limelight. He had a respectable season, and exceeded 900 yards at SC. This seasons line score: 6 games, 81 rushes, 376 yards and 1 touchdown. Respectable? Sure. Legendary? Hardly.
Maybe Redd will show character and rally from the injuries and make something of himself in the NFL. Or hopefully he studied hard at USC and will make something of himself in life. Then we'll all figure out if he is a man who is and was running towards greatness in life, or just another talented underachiever who runs from trouble and fails to live up to his potential.
