A National Championship game pitting Florida State against Ohio State would, happily, leave the SEC out in the cold--and maybe this is the best outcome, all things considered. However:
1) Florida State is execrable. I've long suspected that the 'collegiate' side of their collegiate-athletic programs is a sham, and the recent Deadspin article confirmed my suspicions and then some.
2) I find Sparty way more likable than OSU--indeed, I dislike OSU intensely, so there's really no comparison. On the other hand, I begrudgingly respect OSU as a football program, and their inclusion in the National Championship game would, arguably, help the B1G and Penn State as a member of the conference. If Sparty beats them (a glorious prospect, mind you), those beneficial consequences would not follow.
3) The very idea of Duke beating Florida State in the ACC championship is delicious to contemplate, but I cannot demonstrably root for Duke in my house since my wife is a UNC alumna. Also, if Duke beats FSU, then a SEC team sneaks into the National Championship game.
Is anyone else pondering this dilemma? Suggestions?
