This year, and for the foreseeable future, #94 will be worn by Evan Schwan, a redshirt freshman defensive end from Central Dauphin (Harrisburg, PA). Evan was a relatively late addition to the 2012 signing class. The 6'6", 240lb defender lost some recruiting starz when he suffered a knee injury in high school. But he impressed the Penn State staff, earned an offer, and accepted. Then, he tallied three sacks in the Blue-White scrimmage last month - not too shabby. You can follow Evan on the tweeters, @evan_schwan, where he proudly proclaims his 717 heritage. Rightfully so, by the way. District III for the win.
Evan has some big shoes to fill, wearing #94. Derek (Cameron) Wake, who split time as a senior linebacker on the 2004 defense, now pulls down somewhere around $500,000 per sack in the NFL. Before Wake, Fox Chapel's head coach Eric Ravotti was busting opponent heads on the Beaver Stadium grass for the undefeated 1994 squad, then did the same for his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers. And Chet Parlavecchio, a co-captain linebacker on the National Championship 1982 squad, gave #94 some of its first street cred. Now Chet coaches linebackers with his Penn State brother Mike Munchak, for the Tennessee Titans.
