I want to start by saying that I wish I was drinking, but I haven't. With that said, let me get into my rant.
Guys, we need to start making better nicknames. It's getting pretty sad. Basically all anyone does is now a days is they take the initials and see which way it looks cool. We had MRob, then we had Poz, and there's now ARob and ZZ. Don't even get me started on RGIII. You see, these are pathetic nicknames, There is no creativity to them.
Back in the day, they use to have legendary nicknames, literally. Legends would be created partly because of these nicknames. MRob, ARob, ZZ, Poz don't hold a candle to a nickname like Dr. J. One of my personal favorite is the Crime Stopper. You want to know why that guy got his nickname? It was because he was so good, that crime would stop in town as everyone wanted to be there to see him ball out.
Now, nicknames have to be earned. You can't just look at a player's name and make a nickname off of that, you gotta get creative and think about what their game makes you think about. Be a color commentator.
For instance, when I look at Tim Frazier's game, the first thing i think of is that he's quick. He's fast. He can jump. You can't catch him. That's right, run run run, as fast as you can, you can't Tim, he's the Gingerbread Man... aka the G-Man (cause lets be real, the Gingerbread Man isn't that manly). It even fits perfectly for him, as it isn't uncommon to see him at the G-Man downtown with Sasa (#FreeSasa).
I urge you guys, get creative with the nicknames, don't give them to incoming freshman that you've never seen play, and please, dear god please, avoid the initial and poor puns with names.
